I think £7m would be a good price for us. Not surprised that it's put Spurs off.

Hopefully (if he stays) he's not the type to sulk and will crack on with his development.

Wenger states Arsenal have completed all their busines except maybe a couple of loans going out.

7m we've no chance. If Ali is the bench mark with the loan back 5m is the maximum we could expect.

The deal reportedly earned City £2.5million up-front but add-ons could see the final fee upwards of £7m.

Reported in the CET today

If its England caps, champions league appearances, % sell on above £10m - then its worth very little.

If he turns out to be as sucessful as that ie an England player playing in the champions league, then we have sold him cheap if all we get is £7m. Without knowing the full detail on this its hard to judge this deal but IMO the key factor is the cash up front, all the other add-ons have too many variables in them, so difficult to value. What's worth more
£2m cash plus £1m when he makes his full England debut or £2.5m cash now, I'd take the £2.5m cash. Talk of £7m is over optimistic IMO.

BBC says 'outside the UK'
The add-on is if he scores a hat-trick in the World Cup Final or he grows a third leg.

TM said previously that he wouldn't sell anyone unless it was an offer he couldn't refuse. It took a lot of negotiating before he signed his contract. It is said that he gets 60% of all income to spend as he likes. He got the training ground done up. He got the team bus repainted. And now it has come out that he has more money to spend now that attendances are up.

1, Everything points towards TM having the final say in who comes and goes. So why would he sell Maddison if he never got any of the money to strengthen the squad?

2, Do you really think that Joy is stupid enough to go against the contract signed with TM and risk him walking away? He is her only chance of getting back the money previously wasted.

I don't mind anyone having a go at any of the sides that have had a hand in putting us where we are now. But SISU seem to be doing the right thing now. And I stupidly trust them to continue to let TM have the last say in everything.

Do you stand by these remarks Astute? (cringe!) Or was I right to call them naive?

Sorry for the thread bump folks... it wouldn't have been necessary if Astute had a pair.

Just seen this after replying on the other thread :D

Like I said on the other thread I could be wrong here. But TM has brought other players in, our attendances have gone back down and have we received any money from the Maddison deal yet? You seem to know something the rest of us don't.

A number of big clubs were interested. We looked into the possibility of selling an option (on a right of first refusal) for James instead of an outright sale so we could keep him; however it seems the Football League rejected the idea.

Interesting they tried to sell first dibs on him!

I heard he didn't want to go and was forced to leave. And that Norwich were the only club to put in a firm offer in on him.

Who did you hear forced him? It must have been TM as he has final say on all comings and goings according to Astute

Why do the football league not allow that?

It's a good idea raise a million from him straight away then you probably would still get your 2.5 in the summer.

At least now we know why he was sold for less than waiting for a bidding war in the summer. It seems we were not at break even point at all so the books needed balancing.
You wait to the summer he gets a serious injury those books never get balanced
