Alli went for 5m based on the TV money last year. The PL clubs next year are getting the stupid money, and thus the price of players just went up.

The problem with Wilson is we needed to balance the books because of SF. If the club is now running at break even then it basically boils down to what TM wants to do, and of course what Maddison wants... If we don't get promotion this year then it is inevitable that he will be sold at the end of the year. If we get promoted, then we can offer improved terms and keep him on for at least another season. Selling him for 10m and loan back in the Championship would be the sort of deal that would allow us to give TM a competitive budget to have a shot at it next year... for that reason we can't sell him in January. My 2c.

£5m would be a fucking bargain IMO.

Hold out for more.

Obviously this isn't true and is just a campaign by the Independent to destabilise the club that they hate. Right guys?

Just wait until the CT get their hands on it!!!

Good for him. The sooner our fans realise that we'll always be a selling club, the better.

Similarly to Wilson, I wish him nothing but success. If we can get him loaned back, even better.

Selling clubs never win anything, unless they replace with just as good for less. No need to sell him. Keep and add the just as good to build a successful team. All it needs is a Jimmy Hill to lead.

Pretty much every club outside the big clubs in the Premier is a selling club. A bigger club comes in, the player gets tempted cos they want to play at the highest level and in many cases the club has to sell.

We're not selling any of our players to our rivals, so we have to take it on the chin and just accept that's just the way it is.

I'm not disputing that. What I'm stating is that we're always bargain basement whereas other teams always seem to get a good deal for their talent

I disagree with this somewhat. At the time that Wilson was firing for us, Nahki Wells was in similar form for Bradford and was sold at a similar time to Huddersfield who were also in the Championship, for £2-3m.

I think we play the victim card sometimes too much. I'm not saying we got what we should've for Wilson (at the time, I actually think it was fairly fair but should've had more clauses) but we got money once for Gary Horrowdale. That's good business.

Maddison knows that he is good enough to go on to play Premier League football, but he is a level headed lad. I think he would be clever enough to stay and get us promoted this season.
Same with Armstrong, if he is given the chance to play in the Championship next month, I think he will turn it down in favour of a promotion.

Ha ha imagine if it was printed in the CET first!!!!

If it was in the Cov Observer maybe we would get a shrug of the shoulders. If it was in the CET, it would be a case of "Dwain get your pitch fork we're going hunting!!"

I'm afraid the CET have made a rod for their own back by withholding stories for the council.

Where did you disappear to btw. Is there another court case due??

I think the key to this deal is that we are supposedly breaking even atm, as such we don't need to sell JM to cover running costs like we did with Wilson. If we were able to get promoted this season then we would be in a position to turn down anything but silly offers, but if you get to the point of £10M + loan back then we would be stupid not to take it, that £10M could inject enough cash into the playing budget to establish us as a lower mid table championship club

But then it could be argued that we need to strengthen the squad. We get a big fee for Maddison then money could be re-invested in bringing 2-3 players in, rather than being dependant on loans.

Anything over £5 million could really set us up for a few years, but as we have said year after year, will SISU invest it into the team?

Well you can't say we've had any reason to complain about Sisu re on the field activities this year have we! Think they've realised we need success to move forwards and for them to withdraw, so they have backed TM really well this season on the whole.

So Nahki Wells is still a Champioship player and scored almost half as many goals as CW last season who was also the premier leagues leading goal scorer including scoring the first premier league hat trick of the season until a nasty injury side lined him.

If anyhing you're assisting my arguement.

How can anyone say he's worth more than £5m? I think he's great but he's barely played 20 professional matches. I remember people saying similar about Bigi and he ended up going for £1m.

That is why I am hoping they invest. Thankfully we have a manager who will put his foot down.

Not only has football changed since then, with the need to 'home grown' players, but Maddison is a lot better. Took me a matter of games to know how good he was.

I'm not disputing how good he is but he plays in League One, not the Championship or Premier League. If we can get £5m for him then we should take the money and run.

If your pricing him higher than £5m then that's more than Everton paid for Delefeou and three times as much as West Brom paid for McLean.

Not really, you can't use hindsight before you've sold a player.

He isn't home-grown. English players are in huge demand. Teams like Arsenal need to bring in these players to stop facing a fine.

It was inevitable.

He'll probably go, and I imagine it'll be to Arsenal. £5million is probably generous in my opinion, given his inexperience and relative newcomer status; I'd really push for clauses like loaning him back to us, sell-on percentages etc.

If a bid for £5million was placed, it'd be accepted in a heartbeat. We were never likely to hold onto Madders for long, he has some serious potential. World class potential. If he goes, I hope he's permitted to continue his footy education in the lower leagues with us, as opposed to doing what Newcastle did with Bigi.

If he wants to play at the very top surely he'll go to Leicester won't he?

He also needs to choose his club wisely as Liverpool may not be loaning players out now that Klopp is there so he could sit in the under 21's, plus Arsenal already have loads of players like him in the side and people like Dan Crowley waiting. Spurs would be a good bet or Everton.

Err, no I'm not. But I do commend your assessment based on future foresight. At the time, the players were of similar age, similar standard, similar experience. The price paid for both was fair.

Not every player sold goes on the same way as someone else sold for the same price. Francis Jeffers was sold for £10m once. Wilson was sold for under a 1/3 of that. Players develop/progress differently.

My point (which still stands) is that what we received for Wilson at the time, was comparatively, market value in my eyes. You might see it differently. I won't lose sleep over this...

I wasn't talking about Hindsight, I was talking about common sense. It was obvious how good a player CW is, there's a reason he scored 20 goals last season helping fire Bournemouth into the premier league and then look more than capable in the premier league. It's called raw talent, it's something beyond potential and the fact is we didn't get the value of his raw talent and another player who went to the championship for similar money scored half as many goals is still in the championship and only has five so far this season so is on course to score another eleven goals this season only proves it.

Why some posters have trouble admitting that is beyond me.

The difference now is there isn't a twat like Waggott around. If there is truth in this I would trust Mark Venus to do what is best for us. If we got say £5million and a loan back and could have a chunk of that money I think TM and MV armed with say £3million could add some serious talent to what we already have. Don't get me wrong I want to keep all our best players but there is a real world out there if a big boy wants one of your toys they normally get them.

I know, just before an important home game. Is there no distance that the evil empire of CCC won't go to to destabilize the club ;)

Jesus you both moan on when people raise these points in other threads, yet think its hilarious to make a joke about it in others. Boring.

The jokes over when you do it again and again and again and again ........

He had more experience than CW and is two years older, tellingly he's also never been as prolific in either L1 or Championship as CW.

I'd say he was sold for his true worth whereas CW was undersold. Bournemouth are probably still kicking themselves.

If the likes of Arsenal are genuinely interested in Maddison I would hope this could attract a quality loan or two from them massive amount of talent there and please don't quote Akpom just look at him now that he is with a proper manager.
