Are we in celebratory mood? (1 Viewer)

So Thorn gets the job deservedly and according to all the players just what they all wanted too!
So will the likes of King, Gunny and Westy then now back that up by signing on the dotted line and show a real positive outlook towards a promotion challenge next season?

Ken Deleiu has shown his support for the players in appointing their choice for manager now will those players respond the best way they can or depart for the money elsewhere?

Only Westy would be forgiven if indeed it was a prem club or Celtic but the other two?

As per my comments on other thread, no celebration just yet, thats our problem as city fans. Bigging ourselves up because of a slight turn in fortunes then moaning when our excessive expectations are not met. For now its just a positive start. In terms of the players, I think King would be mad to be here next year just as much as Westwood

I think AT getting the job is great new's and hopefully the contract offer's are descent enough for the player's to consider signing what's on offer.

...you don't think Marlon King owes a huge debt of gratitude to CCFC and it's supporters?
he can exit for a side once again like Wigan at best considering his history recently and may find warming a bench (as he did at Wigan) among his best options. So why would he not be a bigger cog in Coventry City's revival prospects next season with a decent contract to boot!?

or he may spend another season languishing at the wrong end of the Championship with us? Thats what he has to weigh up I suppose

What sort of money do you think we would seriously offer him that would make it lucrative. Surely we aren't even a 20K a week club?

The best way he could repay us is to sign on the dotted line so that we would at least get a fee for him

I honestly don't think any clubs whose team he'd get in are 20k p/w clubs. Cardiff if they went up maybe, but if they can get people off Man City (even when in this league) they really don't need to grab tarnished goods from The Championship if they go up. Plus he'd have to get past Bothroyd, Bellamy and Chopra-he'd find that tough.

I really do think he's better off staying here and becoming a hero. You can tell he loves it, he's like a man who is rediscovering his love of the game all over again. Contrast that with Wigan, Hull & Midboro where he was constantly in trouble and one unhappy bunny.

when you look at the dross bought by some prem clubs I'm sure someone would snap him up. Skillfull, fit, hungry and knows where the goal is

I would think King's new contract would be a base salary of around £12k a week. Win bonuses and draw bonuses plus extra cup games will top that by some 20%. What would definitely be in his contract will be a bonus of number of appearances (so if he stupidly suspends himself he will suffer) and a bonus on number of goals scored. (expect him to therefore be the penalty taker) However there will be no guarantee of being selected should he lose form.
Add in those last two factors and if he scores 20+ a season i would suggest he could increase his salary to the £20k+ mark per week average. That contact would not hurt Coventry as his successes on the pitch should equate to our success and therefore more TV coverage and bigger gates. also some salary is usually paid in 'other' ways - house, car, etc which the club can utilse in their books too.

Well, on the positive-he couldn't sign a contract that hadn't been offered to him. At least there is an outside chance of it now, and Thorn getting the job must enhance it a bit.

One thought...Westwood maintained for ages that he never actually got the previous contract offer-it "never materialised" I think he said. Perhaps SISU refusing to sign it off after RR had done the leg-work? So, would this be the first time any of these 3 have actually had genuine, serious, actual-not just discussed-real contract offers? If so..what's changed?

i think we will lose westy for sure, king will hold us to ransom and eventually leave and gunnar will stay. Nothing really to celebrate in my book.

I wouldn't blame any of them if they chose to leave. I'd love for them to resign, but I don't really think they owe us anything, including King. We offered them contracts which they fulfilled.
