They both were out of position. Both Willis and Rod as gullible as each other. Rod went for the same header as Stokes and Willis left ball watching and lost his marker.

I quite like Willis, but definitely prefer McDonald.

The point is if you include Stokes and Grimmer we have 6 players who can play centre half.

We are desperately short in midfield and wide players as well as a striking option so if Willis does get shipped out there is more than adequate cover.

Grimmer has looked rather shaky at the back of late, so I highly doubt you’d want to be in a position where he has to play. It’s good that these players can cover, if need be, but we have 4 good CB options. I think it’s unwise to break up an area of the team that we know is the best in the league. Beggars’ belief.

I wouldn’t say we’re ‘desparately short’ of midfielders - we have Kelly, Stevenson, Doyle, Shipley, Maycock and Bayliss all vying for 2 CM spots. Doyle has been playing 40+ league games since he’s left us - so you’re really filling 1 spot in midfield for 5 players.

With Jones out injured, I’d agree we should be looking for options out wide.

As for strikers, we have two forwards on 8 goals, how many more strikers do we actually need if Nazon stays?

Realistically, we need to offload a few fringe players - the obvious candidates in mind are K.Thomas and Beavon who aren’t getting game time.

I’m still happy with the squad, when factoring in the Jones and Andreu season-ending injuries, the squad is stronger.

There’s a reason most managers in this league rate us up there as one of the best teams in this league.

Rod hasn’t looked himself for a few games now. Having said that, they’re still pretty solid for this division. We do have best defence in division !

Hmm, not so sure on the midfielders. We may have numbers there, but Maycock for me has not looked good enough and Tom Bayliss has played just one single game.

The reality is we really only have Kelly (injured), Doyle (who is 36), Shipley and Stevenson.

Looking back at the higlights, Willis makes a few decent interceptions as well. McDonald to me looks like he's carrying a bit of timber.

Although he had a slightly shaky start, I was really impressed with Willis' second half performance on Saturday. Looking back his first half performance was probably more of a reflection on Rod being slightly all over the place rather than Willis being poor himself.

It's obvious in my eyes, we need 2 wingers and a attacking midfielder. Every where else we have sufficient cover

Think this has turned into the defend Jordan Willis thread.

Don't think anyone's called for him to be flogged and or sold.... due to his few errors on games he's made.

He's not getting the Vincenti, McNulty treatment lol

More he's likely the one who can attract a sensible fee to help get goals in our game and get the ball from A to C better

I would rather keep Willis personally, his versatility is an asset as well. I don't understand the love of McDonald, he's decent enough but doesn't really dominate against a big striker

It struck me as odd how portly he looked too given he'd not been out for long. Same as McNulty a couple of weeks back. Good job we're not playing in vertical stripes this year! What are we feeding these players?!

Budget cuts to the Ryton kitchen means the players' post match meal are two pasties from the Pound Bakery

steve imo you go overboard when you have an opinion(valid or not), to point it looks like you are trashing a player non stop. thats why maybe you see a few posters jump to the players defence. maybe tone down a little in future. honest assesment not looking for an argument. also otis makes you look bad by agreeing with you and he is clueless about football.

David Cotterill had his contract paid up at Blues this afternoon, so hopefully some truth in that one. Blue nose here (who forgets that Blues are a lower Championship team) thinks that's definitely his level, so would be a decent one to get. Said not pacey in the JJ mould, but can deliver a ball into the box, more of a Downing type.

As the respected poster you are on here.... ok.

I'd like to clarify tho I've not trashed Jordan Willis as a player and I've said a few times he's a good player and done well this season for most parts, and I think he can take the club forwards for the sum of 400k so yes i do champion the sale of Willis this window due to the riches we have in that area.

Not sure what Otis has to do with my opinion tho knowledgeable or not or even if he or anyone else thinks the sale could be for the good of the side in the remainder of the 17/18 season.

I think I'd not be alone, tho it maybe 60/40 to sell him if it was to be polled.

If there was a poll, nobody would be sold and the magic money tree would be raided.

People saying that Cotterill wouldn't be able to play until January...to be fair, that's only 13 days away!

Ha ha, it's ok I appreciate your differing views and how you appreciate his services and would like to continue to do so.

But commenting on him in the match thread... Cheltenham highlights... or hypothetical January transfer thread were he's been a key talking point, saleable asset or match ratings taliking about how Eisa pulled him apart, let him have the freedom of the box moments? It's only fair to talk about them all good or bad.

You asked for my views on is davies better than Willis earlier, and I even said possibly not.

I also rated Mcdonald poorly too just to clarify for his first half performance.

Surely there's no chance of Cotterill. Wages too high and hasn't Robins said all the players will be loans?

Why would we bring in David Cotterill who's wages are likely to be double, if not triple that of our wage cap when it's highly probable that we cannot even afford to extend Nazon's loan due to the loan fee Wolves will be asking for?

And like Cavan has said, the incoming players will be loans.

Nope, we should have turned a blind eye to McDonald's and Willis's error on Saturday and pretended it never happened.

We must also stop all the clubs supposed sniffing around Willis forthwith..

Heaven forbid we sell our last trophy winning captain, was he given the freedom of the city for that or just CC4L back garden?

Its not like he's Virgil Van Dijk every whisper of liverpools interest gets us scared to death he's off.

He's valuable to us in the short term or long term. But MR is the one saying he needs outs to improve the squad....

Again, Doyle has consistently played 40+ league games a season since he left us... So, to have 3 players competing for that last spot leaves us in good stead. I don’t think any starters will be sold, unless there’s a ridiculous offer tabled. It’s January, and most of these players have long contracts - there’s no pressure to sell.

However, fringe players who aren’t getting game time, Thomas and Beavon spring to mind, will have to be shipped on to free up wages.

Central midfield is defensive and poor. There are only two experienced choices and one - Doyle - is ineffective a lot of the time. The others are either too inexperienced or just not featuring. It’s not a great choice of players for a team with too 3 ambition.

Yeah sensible, all except Doyle and Kelly-Evans are on deals with another 18 months so we hold the aces as such.

But should a attractive offer come in some would be worthwhile considering.

Kwame has just 6 months to earn a new deal or depart.

But part of the reason we've got such a good defensive record to be fair. Robins just needs to work out how to effectively run a midfield that can offer support to the back 4 but also start helping more up the top end of the pitch.

It would be ok playing Kelly and Doyle with Andreu pushed in front of them to feed the striker but injuries have put paid to that, the 'kids' coming through have talent but not the aggression we need in the middle, we have been out muscled in a few games in the centre with the academy lads playing
