THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE MANAGER OF THE MONTH CURSE.
It is one football folklore I can not abide.
The whole premise of the player of the month, manager of the month etc award is that it is given in recogniton of raised levels of performance away from an average.
The performance levels can not be sustained at that level, so return to average. Giving the illusion of a drop in form, but it is just returning to the average level.

Yep, statistical regression to the mean.

Good to know there's another stats geek on here! :D

No, the curse is real. Just like Santa, Bigfoot, God and Reptilians.

So actually you're saying there is such a thing, it's just got an explanation.

And regression to the mean as an argument means all form only lasts one month.

Sorry, it sounds good, but it doesn't make sense. Our average ppg prior to October was roughly 1.8, now it's 0.5 that's not an illusion.

Aaahhhh but there again lies a false statistic, you are taking a sample of 2 matches to draw your conclusion from and comparing that to a sample of 17 matches. At any point during the run of games before the manager of the month award you could have taken 2 matches and said our points total was X, that does not mean that X is represenatative.

This is like watching the open university in the 1970's.
