Of course Hill shouldn't have been on the panel. How is that Sky Blues' fans fault?

And the reason i called you a fool is because it is very foolish to hold any sort of grudge like this for 35 years!! If you were wallowing in League 3 and still down amongst the deadmen because of it i could understand it more, but still, we didn't murder the Queen or bring down 4 Jumbo Jets over the capital. We didn't rape anyone or download kiddy porn..

Do you still hate all Germans for World War II?

It was 35 years ago and that is why you are a fool.

whether i think your a fool or not i haven't called you it.
people bringing the war, bombing, murder, and whatever else are well out of order. this has nothing to do with any of those more serious issues.
this is soley about a FIXED FOOTBALL MATCH. people's definition of fixing may be different. if ONE no-ball in cricket is a fixed match, with life bans and jail sentences what is eleven players making NO attempt to play at all.
i personally believe that the game was fixed, you may call it gamesmanship, that is your right and defines your beliefs.

the reason the grudge is held for so long is that justice was never served, if it had this would have been long forgotten about by sunderland fans. they've been relegated eight(?) times since 1977 and there are no grudges for any of them.
every one of those eight times sunderland were relegated by being rubbish but none had outside forces affecting the result.

there is no timescale for justice if it hasn't been served. just like criminals are still being caught 50 years later from dna etc. i don't put corrupt football chairman Jimmy Hill alongside serious criminals but he has got away with it.
he should not be revered as an honorable man. your association with him and not condemning his actions is the stain over your club. that is your choice.

No Sunderland fan has answered my comments that I worked with at least 6 Sunderland fans for 15 years and at a time around and after this incident and not one of them ever even referred to this match let alone complained about it.

So how come we have people on here after 35 years still banging on about it.

This grudge is very much a stain on your club believe me!

i personally believe that the game was fixed,.

So Bristol City had no say in this, It was all Cov.

At the End of the day we were relegated yesterday because over the whole season we were shit, for whatever reason.
We can go over every game from this season and say if this happened, if that happened. In the end we didn't get enough points on the table.

In 1977 you were relegated because you LOST the game you only needed to draw. Over the WHOLE of the Season your team didn't get enough points.

i can't vouch for the six sunderland fans you worked with but 99% who watched the club in that era know that we were cheated. they can't change what happened as they were ONLY FOOTBALL FANS with no influence over the FA or justice.
i personally don't know anyone who doesn't think we were cheated then. it really isn't a subject thats been talked about every day for the last 35 years, its just a subject that pops up every now and then and the outcome doesn't change.
to put it simply, there isn't any closure because there wasn't any justice.
maybe this season's relegation battle has brought it to the surface again but the resentment of being cheated by Hill is always there.

it isn't just one or two people who see Jimmy Hill as a corrupt hypocrite, its thousands. if you truly believe that Jimmy Hill is a man to be respected and honoured i really can't help you.

with regards to 1977 there is no stain on sunderland, non whatsover.

And we're ONLY FOOTBALL fans too. As for "there isn't any closure because there wasn't any justice", Christ you talk like it's the Birmingham Six all over again. Get perspective, move on with your life.

No, agree.

You did nowt wrong in 1977. But justice after 35 years? Torch is spot-on. Perspective for fooks sake!!!

All City fans know what happened in that last 15 mins was very wrong and I for one was there and screaming at our players to get forwards and win the game. Nowt we could do from the terraces though.

Both teams were culpable, not just City, but very much Bristol too. It takes two to tango.

But you have to accept that is was the police who delayed the game and not the club. That is cast in stone and was well reported at the time.

Not saying it was right at all what happened in that last 15 mins, but in 1977 you can be bound sure that 99.9% of all clubs would have done exactly the same thing given the opportunity.

i've moved on years and years ago. like most people who believe in fair play its mildly amusing to see the tables eventually turned.
we've been where you are and were strong enough to rise again. lets see how strong your club is now the chips are down.

You sure we didn't collude with the chips too? Surprised we haven't buckled under this enormous stain that has weighed so heavily upon our shoulders for nearly 4 decades!!!

it was the corruption that happened afterwards that people don't forget. did you see the reception Jimmy Hill got at fulham v sunderland a couple of years ago, its on youtube.
long before your relegation battle this season people didn't need to be told about Jimmy Hill, they all knew straight away. he knew as well.

Jimmy Hill is not an honorable man and should not be revered by any sports fans.

Said the man who "moved on years ago".

You should have seen the reception the great man got when his statue was unveiled.

I have seen that footage and thought the Sunderland fans behaved appallingly on that day. Disgraceful. Nice that, about 3,000 on to 1.

And as Tommy says, if you had moved on you wouldn't be on here talking about it endlessly for hours on end.

3,000 to 1. come on man, it wasn't a fist fight, just football fans letting a corrupt cheat know that they haven't forgotten what he did.
Jimmy Hill enjoys the limelight and he played up to it.

anyway, i'm off to the man city forum. we played them in a pre-season friendly in 1963, drew 2-2 but one of their goals was at least a yard offside. cheating t--ts.

I would like to ask Grim Reaper if he thought the dive Seb Larsson did at Wolves earlier this season was an attempt to cheat by winning a penalty, and the three points gained for a win, or did he think Larson was actually fouled and it was a penalty.

It was the worst dive i've seen in 45 years of watching football, including the disgrace that is Ashley Young ,and the twat that is Didier Drogba. Did we see or hear Sunderland AFC come out after that game to apologise to the rest of the teams in the league for trying to gain three points by cheating.

NO is the answer

If we're really into grudges - and I mean proper ones now - what about the disgusting tackle Nicky Sumberbee did on Steve Froggat, that ended Froggie's career.

Now if you want something to be ashamed about...............

I just hope their ground burns down, nothing serious. Maybe when they have a couple of relegations to keep the casualties down

Is it possible to identify "people" registering on this site from the Sunderland area and get them kicked off for good? This whole situation is getting stupid.

Jesus Christ...is this for real?

If they feel justice has been done, great, let them crack on. FFS, it was 35 years ago.

We've sunk to our lowest point in years and years and years. Lets focus on club ownership, our manager for next season, what squad we'll have/not have yadda yadda yadda....

Let them have their moment...what goes around and all that.

I'm up that way soon might take a detour and go piss up that statue outside the ground and then post the photo on here. Don't worry though it will be tactfully done with no full frontal nudity!
