"Popular choice":

"popular among players and supporters":

"popular appointment":

We got him because he did all right in those eight games and fans seemed to want him.

YEah, I feel the same really. A lot of fans wanted him as he did well in those 8 games. I've got no real problem with him.

Square peg, round hole....not what we needed at that point in time. His tenure was an unmitigated disaster for the club, as he was clueless as ****.

I fully agree with this, wish him all the best. When he came in after a few months of piss poor football and a negative mentality, he got a few decent reults and with a good squad, looked a half decent manager. However, he was exposed when he was forced to work under the conditions that Pressley is thriving under now and that is when he was exposed.

This whole 'was pissed whilst taking training' thing that people seem to keep bringing up. Is this factually known by these people or a rumour that has gone a little too far. If no substance behind their claims its not a very sensible thing to suggest in a public forum I'd guess.

Whose brought the 'pissed whilst training' allegation up, as I hadn't seen it until you posted it?

I just didnt rate him as in my humble opinion he was sh*t, totally and utterly.

Some unfounded shite.

That when you ask anyone for any form of source they can't provide one.

Ironically the people regurgitating this rubbish at the time, were the same ones who demand sources and evidence after anyone's opinion that they mildly disagree with.

Was never really a fan of Thorn but it's a bit of a shit thing to do suggesting he has a drink problem if they don't know if its true or not. Having said that, the poster may well know for fact that its completely correct I'd happily hold my hands up and apologise.

Is that a libel against the owners of Kidderminster or Andy Thorn or both?

Anyway he got the job, so good luck to him.

Well it puts Kidderminster's Board on a par with Sisu when it came to appointing Thorn, so lets hope we dont see Kidderminster playing in Upton On Severn in the near future

"I'm extremely confident in my own strengths, particularly when it comes to man management and player recruitment." - Andy Thorn

Kidderminster you're doomed I am afraid to say.

I agree. Most wanted him in after his caretaker spell (although the majority would deny it).

Yes, he did well, then it all went a bit tits up, and if he walked he wouldn't have got any compensation. Did he know it had gone tits up and was waiting to be sacked? Most likely.

It was SISU's failure for not realising it had gone drastically wrong, and I don't hold any personal grudge against him.

Who knows, he might end up storming up the leagues with Kiddi! (Weirder things have happened)

Ha ha ha ha! Bit of a wierd appointment all round. They are demanding promotion, sacked a manager after one poor run of results and the players are right behind the ex manager.

Perhaps he'll unveil Kevin Malaga as his flagship signing.

I just heard them say on TV that Kidderminster had lost 4 out of the last 5.

They'd better get used to it, with that clown in charge they will probably lose 4 out of the next 5 too!

To the person who asked, yes he's been working for the England team:

From the BBC
Thorn has been part of England manager Roy Hodgson's scouting team preparing for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Hope he does well. Good luck Andy!

You used to say that he never bothered turning up for training sessions which was also unsubstantiated.

I take it you were not implying this was due to the other unsubstantiated bollox that he cancelled sessions because he was pissed?

Well it explains why Milner and Cleverly keep getting picked for England

Only kidding, good luck Andy. Didn't do well here but was under difficult circumstances

No I never said that either. I said one thing once in a forum discussion with one other poster (gaz I think) regarding a rumour and said categorically it was not substantiated. I don't think I ever said he didn't turn up for a training session.

Yeah but you were doubly wrong when you posted this as according to Midlands Today he has been scouting for Roy Hodgson recently & is now employed as a football manager..

Grendel said:
Well a couple of threads yesterday went well off topic and ended up discussing my favourite (or should I say least favourite) subject.

Many will know my views on thorn. Inept beyond belief, defeatist, clueless, lacking any motivational ability and utterly incapable of communication. He is, beyond question, the worst manager this club has ever had born by the fact be is now unemployed and will never again be employed in football.

Yet, and yet the adulation he received by many on here is far more than given to Pressley and robins. Thorn wasn't a cheap option - he was a caretaker for 11 games and had a mediocre points total in that time. The fact is that if he them hadn't been given the job full time there would have been uproar. He was compared to jimmy hill, its the best football seen in decades, he's the man who can spot a player - a master talent.

The truth is with a real manager in charge we would probably have survived. A real manager had to be worth more than 10 points. The first half of the season completely finished us.

Can someone, anyone, explain how people were so badly wrong in their judgement regarding this utterly clueless individual.

Now people will say why dredge this up. Fair enough but this to me is worthy debate as I think in decades to come two things will be big talking points - how the club ended up in Northampton and how an unqualified inept buffoon managed to get away with being so popular when he was the worst manager in the clubs history.
