And we think our council doesn't care! (1 Viewer)

There was talk of a Solent authority a few months back and it went down like the proverbial lead ballon and hasn't been mentioned since.

One of the former owners separated ownership of the ground and the club so when they had their most recent administration they were in a position where whoever took ownership of the club would't actually own Fratton Park.

When the Trust purchase the club the local council lent them several million to buy Fratton Park back off the previous owner. They also waved through the removal of land usage restrictions and planning approval so a huge Tesco could be built right next to the ground despite a fair bit of opposition from locals.

They absolutely hate each other, and from what I can make out all seems to be based on a mythical crossing of a picket line in a dock strike. If you look into it a bit there's no evidence to suggest it ever actually happened! They take any opportunity to get at each other, when Oasis played the Rose Bowl a few years back there was a lot of trouble and when I was driving home yesterday afternoon there was already a massive punch up taking place on the way to Fratton Park - Madness were playing there last night.
I went to an England game a few years ago to have a look at the then newish St Mary's Stadium. A young

I went to a game a few years ago to have a look at the then newish St Mary's Stadium. A young Peter Crouch played for Pompey youth as a sub...wanted to check out see if he was any good.
Some Pompey fans HAD to go just for the wind up. They were mostly mid teens...& they had a bit of a riot around the place. They just cannot stop themselves!

When they play each now the police do this coach bubble thing. So if you're a Pompey fan going to St Marys the only way you can go is a combined coach and match ticket from Fratton Park. You don't get your match ticket until you're on the coach.

They then have a fleet of coaches, think it was about 60, with a police escort to the other ground and a secure area is created by the police where the coaches drop off and you can get into the ground. It's literally a fenced off area surrounded by police. You can't go anywhere but straight into the ground.

SISU should have taken over ACL instead of wasting millions in litigation and compensation. CCC shouldn't have let Wasps have the arena. And most of them that shout the loudest didn't do any kind of protesting. There are a couple of us that protested against CCC that are seen by a few as CCC lovers. Oh the irony of it all.

I think it was only LAST and BHSB that I can think of from on here who protested outside the council house on the eve of WASPS takeover of ACL. As far as I'm aware no protest by GCBTTR group despite having arranged previous protests at the council house, not sure whether KCIC was involved either.

And as I said they have been accused of being CCC lovers  Joke isn't it.

What I don't really know is why this endlessly tedious circuit is continued through the day.

Can I stick my claim in, having protested against SISU, yet seen as loving SISU by a few?

As is well known I, along with others, know the truth.

Some people just can't see past more than one person/people from same entity being at fault. So when it is mentioned that there are more at fault the debate starts again

And then we have some who try to say that Richardson is innocent and nothing that has happened has anything to do with him. But they don't like to say who is at fault for us not owning a stadium or not having the funds for one when HR was sold. And all sides could have handled the situation much better no matter who you blame for our predicament.

If this is the thread Grendel started then, once again, no they didn't.

If however it's somewhere else then fine. Otherwise stop peddling gibberish...

When Grendel speaks you agree?

So the only time it has ever been mentioned is on one thread? Bit of a silly way to defend him when there is nothing to defend. Try asking Torch. There has been a few threads where we have both had debates at the same time with people saying that none of it is Richardsons fault. And also that the football was good so he should be forgiven.

Show me a thread where someone says Richardson is blameless - go on for once prove one of your ridiculous claims.

Not a hint of sky blue. it looks like a successful game of tetris. It actually spells out "MANCHESTER UNITED FC" if you rearrange the red bits.

Why do you always make it personal and black & white?

Absolute bollocks yet again.

For someone who keeps bleating about people pigeon-holing, you do a hell of a lot of it yourself.

I am more than capable of having my own mind, it's a shame you try to sugget otherwise.

I think Astute's point here is understandable. Although I share some views with G, I do find it distasteful and well... fake, when every post he makes is slavishly agreed with. I'm not accusing you of that NW as I respect your posts and your opinions but it does get a little wearing when the radical band wagon jumpers come out to play.

Never mind the colour it looks bloody terrible whatever colour it is. Where's that monstrosity?

I think the reason people down here are so pissed off is the tower is considered a landmark of the city and therefore if its going to be coloured should be in colours that represent the city. Guess the equivalent would be if the Godiva statue got painted red as part of a sponsorship deal or something like that.

Not to mention it was paid for by local taxpayers who as usual haven't had a say.

There are many here I find wearing.

I do however find it immensely wearing that the 'some people' line is trotted out (and the Richardson obsession has been since Grendel's thread, where 'some person' chose to misrepresent views as solely pro-Richardson, so it's hardly surprising that with the arbitrary, slightly absurd bringing it up *again* I might want clarification and, when I ask for it, I get lumped in ineptly as a dedicated follower of Grendel) and I find it immensely wearing when it's all about 'truth' and people knowing more than others and SEEING THE LIGHT, HALLELULAH.

Does *anybody* slavishly agree with Grendel?!? Seriously?!? Half the time he spouts absolute bollocks!

It's the tedious generalisations and lumping into groups I find feeble-minded in the extreme. Kind of insulting to be lumped into a Grendel-slave too. Kind of insulting that views are pressed into black & white too.

Sometimes, I wonder why I try and even bother doing bloody nuance. It takes an age to type out, no bugger reads it anyway, and then some people even choose to answer with a question totally unrelated!

you are fine with your own 'some people' then?

An update from the leader of Portsmouth Council:

Donna Jones said:
I am pleased to advise that after working with Emirates over the weekend, and having spoken to Mark Catlin, chief executive of Portsmouth FC, and other key stakeholders, we are working up a new design for the Tower. The design will reflect the city’s heritage.

dont we have a thread for all things portsmouth

Sorry all went to bed for a few hours before work.

Thanks Samo. What gets me is that Grendel frequently jumps on my posts. He then gets defended for doing so and then the same people have a go at me for questioning him. It is a tedious joke. You would think that I am the only person he does it to.

I would bring up a list of the threads I said about if I had time and thought it would be needed. But like I said just ask Torch. It is one of the rare times that we have fully agreed on something so he is sure to remember.
