What did your Walsall mate think of Hiwula?

I've not said anything to write off Hiwula you absolute nut case.

Has something happened in your personal life? You've being extremely out of sorts recently.

How could you compare the two sides when Andre Wright or Daniel Agyei had never played first team football prior to their loans with us? Most of our strikers have first team experience at League One level and above? Hiwula got to the play-offs with Bradford in the 2016-17 season so how are you unhappy with the striker situation?

I wouldn't suggest it's desperate. My view is, MR has targeted a player in Bakayoko that is better than what we currently have. E.g. Biamou. As I mentioned in a previous post Biamou was targeted by clubs at the beginning of the window but would have likely been put off by his contract extension. Maybe the situation has changed. Or maybe we're swapping a player as well as playing a fee for Bakayoko. I'm not saying you can't express some concern, I'm just saying have an open mind as MR hasn't gone too far wrong so far in terms of recruitment. Express concern if the signings aren't performing, not when they're not even in the building yet.

How can he compare them when we have only played one game at this level which I doubt he saw.

My point was both sets of signings smacked of desperation. The first set proved to be the case, the second we will find out.

Nick, I don't understand why it is not OK to express concern at the striker situation. Can you answer that?

You can post all you want about being superior because you went to a match but it's a bit silly really. The main highlight on there was Hiwula's miss anyway...

Standard innit? They can't have gone to the game.because then they'd have the right opinion.

I'm confused as to where he will fit in but hardly not satisfied.

There's no real way to tell without giving him a chance to play and then watching him.

No point judging him before he has even put on a shirt, I'll watch him for myself to get a view on him.

It's going to be like the whole obsession over collins but with chaplin this year if he doesn't sign.

People sat at home never seeing anything going on being the experts based on the media coverage.

We could have only signed Chaplin where he has a massive expectation so after five games people are moaning about him.

At the moment we play one striker.

I can say for sure the Biamou and JCH cannot be that player. We have now signed one (and probably another) player who is probably not going to play there either, so I really don't understand where they are going to fit into the team.

The biggest thing we needed to do this transfer window is replace McNulty. We have so far done everything to avoid don't that. Even Robins admits he hasn't signed a replacement yet.

What do you think the logic is on signing this player? I've been thinking all day and honestly I'm stumped. We are a team with little cash and it feels like we are wasting it right now.

Here’s a mad idea, why not wait until we line up on Saturday, when the window is closed and all business has been done, and then see where we are! In all likeliness yours and a few others absolute knicker twisting will be unnecessary.

If you don't think you can replace him with the money you're getting for him...simple, don't sell him! He was under contact. I'd take a "sulking" McNulty over our current situation as surely he'd realise that he's never going to get a move somewhere better paid after a few weeks of half-arsing it. Downing tools would have been cutting off his own nose to spite his face.

How can you guarantee that though? If he didn't put in the same performance levels he showed last season you'd instantly wish we'd sold him during the summer. An unhappy player never makes a good player. There are countless cases where players have performed poorly after their club blocked their move to another club. I wish we'd kept McNulty as much as the next fan but I agree with MR's decision, if a player isn't committed to the club 100% then they should be moved on.

Not as desperate as fans everyday posting sign someone, sign someone and putting forward donkeys....repeating 20 goal striker, 20 goal striker. I note they have learnt at long last to spell McNulty correctlyy.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I personally still wouldn't go as far as to compare the two scenarios though as TM brought in a flood of players in the latter end of the window to simply fill numbers and resurrect his failings earlier in the window. MR isn't trying to do that. For instance, I think in the last 2 weeks of the window under TM we brought in around 6-7 players. It was obvious that these were panic buys as it was clear that they lacked any real experience at League One level - and this was after his constant promise throughout the window of bringing in 'Championship quality players'. Whereas I can't see that in any of MR's transfers. Some may not have been first-choice targets, but none to date have been panic buys IMO.

Don't forget that transfers are hugely complicated and none are two of the same. Some can be sorted quickly and some take longer. Don't think that just because players sign in and around deadline day that they're a panic buy.

So on the assumption that this guy is virtually over the line ... do we think it's the number 10 shirt he's filling, or does anyone thing Conor Chaplin could be purchased too before Thursday's deadline ? Apologies, not seen loads of updates and been busy today at work ... so haven't caught the latest ... so hoped someone might be able to update me ... please.

I did a comparison between the relegation season strike force and the one we have now. There didn't look to be a lot of difference to be honest.

It's all well and good being patient, and waiting til the window has closed. If you like, give the players 5 games to bed in or whatever.

The reality is this situation looks very desperate as it stands, and there is nothing wrong with expressing some concern at that.

You can't be serious?
Comparing a strike-force CCFC had the season we got relegated, with one we are yet to sign (unless I have missed the announcement) playing with different players is hardly a faiir one.

And then ypu talk about reality?!

I love this fans missing the qualities some of our players we have v Chaplin who still has a lot to prove he is the answer. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind us signing him..but he is still just potential once signed.

good evening walsall fan here come in peace.
firstly congratulations on your promotion nice to get one of local derbies back and love coming to your ground.
now onto bakayoko where do I start.
I don't know the chap personally but ive seen most of his performances and I really don't think hes fit for the league never mind league 1.
I would say he would suit non league at best.
his goalscoring record Is atrocious and for someone 6ft 3 he doesn't jump he has an attitude on the pitch that I wouldn't put up with as a manager.
ask our fans about our last away game at Fleetwood although we wers safe it was a chance for him to try and adhere himself to the fans and new manager and walke round like he couldn't be bothered. the manager took the extra year in our favour on him to command a fee and most walsall fans would drive him to his new club.
if walsall get 200k for him it would be the best bit of business weve done this decade.
but if you flip the coin hes young and maybe another club could bring out the best in him
remember most walsall fans when deeney was sold for 300k to Watford said the same and at some point 30 million was being touted for him a few years back.
the pure fact that 2 non league strikers have come in and gone above him shows you what the manager must think.
if you do sign him I hope it works out for both parties but 200k my god such an expensive price for such an unimpressive player.
those you tube clips show 5 mins of 5 seasons don't be fooled!!!
anyway good luck this season think youll do okay and be nice if our 2 matches are crackers
ps Jordi hiwula will offer you much more I would have him back tomorrow

I've sadly heard the same kind of things said today, especially the bit about it being ridiculously stupid business. Unfortunately it might take a bit more than that for some of our fans to take that, or you seriously for some reason.

I wasn't at that game, but I know Hiwula was not played as a proper striker. I also haven't seen Bakayoko play, but I've heard enough to suggest he is not the kind of player we need to be going near with a barge pole. I didn't need to go to the game to make those opinions.

Both of these concepts seem extremely odd to me given that we lost our top scorer.

Everyone brandishing 200K makes the fee sound so inflated. Realistically half of that will be add-ons as both parties know Walsall cannot command such a fee for a player with Bakayoko's previous goalscoring record. The Walsall manager probably realises that a move may be the best thing for Bakayoko and believes that the goals may come under a different manager. Subsequently, as a result of this he'll want to safe guard his sale by ensuring that add-ons are in his favour.

So now it is frowned upon to take other fans opinions (who have seen him play probably dozens of times) because it doesn't fit the narrative? I get some fans are always negative and it gets on people's nerves, but the striker situation is a bit bizarre to say the least.

If Biamou was his backup and we only signed one of them last year, you have to ask why we need both of them in the squad now.

No, it's saying when he signs watch him for us to form an opinion. People were annoyed when we got mcgoldrick, their fans were saying how rubbish he was.

He might be different in a different system around other players.

Should really start on a clean slate rather then on a negative like McNulty did because he wasn't Collins.

In fairness I always backed McNulty and supported him when some fans were getting on his back. Unlike some other players he was constantly coming close to scoring and I felt like it was only a matter of time.

A big name (look at Yakubu) means nothing, but quite often a negative name can be something to be genuinely worried about.

McGoldrick always gets rolled out whenever we are signing a forward with a poor reputation, but he had played at a higher level and was a quality product of the Southampton production line. I was really excited by his signing as were my mates and brothers-the only negativity I saw about it was on here! Whereas this bloke seems, from any objective evaluation of his career to date, to be rubbish, and in no way matches the specifications of what we need from a striker at this moment in time. He does seem to represent a massive waste of valuable, rare (for CCFC) transfer fee. The only logic behind it that I can see is that he intends to play him as a wide forward, in which case hopefully there is an actual goalscorer coming in as well. But even then, it's an awful lot of money for a player with a poor record and reputation.
