Anybody watched 'The Test' on Amazon Prime? I've just finished episode 4, been a really good watch so far. Cricket equivalent of All or Nothing about the Australian team and how they rebuilt after the sandpaper scandal, fly-on-the-wall type documentary. Tim Paine comes out of it really well for me, good bloke and really stepped up after being named captain.

Most importantly it hammers home what seems to me like an unarguable fact...

Pat Cummins definitely wears eyeliner

Its laughable really that the CWC didn't win. The coverage was exceptional and the final in particular with Ian Smith's 'barest of margins' commentary.

Brilliant performance from Ireland but some sloppy bowling from England.

Thought Ireland had blown it when England got 328 after being 44-3 but excellent batting performance and centuries for Stirling and Balbirnie,.

Looks like this Test could be decided by a Buttler dropped catch.

Great test but I think that brush of Stokes glove might be the end of any hope of a win.

Where has this ugly term batter come from it’s a batsman, so nice to here Shane Warne and David Lloyd still calling them batsmen

Jeez this is tense. One of these has to bat through

If they can stop together for an half an hour it’s England’s game

Thought it was game over when Stokes went but now it looks like a close finish.

Was a risky strategy to just go for it and start hitting out, could easily have led to a couple of quick wickets, but it’s got us back in the game.

Gender politics. Women play too and you can't call them batsmen. You don't call bowlers bowlsmen do you? If that's fine why an issue with batter?

Great finish and two players so out of form with the bat to make the difference came out of nowhere. Then after the ball that got Pope there was nothing.

As much as I love test cricket you can understand why many people can't get into it. Imagine going to a football match and your ticket meant you had to leave after the first twenty minutes? Or to go for five days only to decide to just stop and call it a draw? I think I'd love to see the occasional open-ended test, where everyone just carries on until the game is won. Esp say in the Ashes if it's winner takes all in the final test.

Put a crowd in there yesterday and it's just a completely different spectacle. But it is one of the sports that from a popularity point of view does suffer badly from no proper free-to-air.

It would've been a different spectacle BUT it might have affected the result. Big crowd seeing us getting closer is going to get nervous and that's going to translate to the players. Esp ones so out of form like Buttler and Woakes. I think the lack of a crowd may have actually helped us yesterday.

As a more general point not all tests are like that though. That'd be like using a 5-4 thriller as evidence of how great football is. You get far more boring 0-0's.

Big cuts coming at the ecb they may even move some of the remaining admin jobs to Edgbaston.
Things like women’s cricket which must be a loss maker must be pretty worried

A lot of what is being talked about seems to have been in the pipeline for a while as they have concerns about the value of future TV deals. Not sure why unless something has changed in the Indian market.

Not running a performance centre when you have the same facilities at multiple grounds such as Edgbaston and Old Trafford makes sense. Does the ECB itself even need to be in one location these days? Why not decentralise.

Makes total sense to have the admin out of London, the tv deal doesn’t have as much competition as they expected.

Not the most exciting days cricket ever, could have done with the barmy army in there to liven things up.

Fantastic knock by Crawley. Last England player who turned their maiden test century into a double ton?

Why are we wasting balls bowling short stuff?

They're looking to bat out the day rather than looking to score so will happily leave bouncers. It's just wasting precious overs. Make them play ever ball - that'll make them far more nervous.

We go to this tactic far too often IMO

Feel very lucky to have been able to witness Cook and Jimmy's careers. Two English records that will be very hard to beat.

Probably just as well the rain came as England weren't looking great.

In other news 10 players from Chennai Super Kings have tested positive for coronavirus. IPL is due to start on 19th September in UAE so who knows what will happen now.

not the biggest fan of 20/20 but watching Morgan yesterday was something else.
Not just the runs he's scored the last 4/5 years but the impressive number of match-winning/changing innings in limited over cricket is quite something.

Been at my Mum & Dads all day watching the most boring ODI I can remember. Finally gave up as England had no chance and in the time it took me to get hope the Aussies lost 4 wickets for 3 runs!

Absolute madness!

I chose the F1 over the cricket, turned over after the race to see our burst at the end. Assumed it was still way too low a total so cleaned the kitchen while keeping a loose eye on the TV. Sat down about halfway through the Australia innings to see this carnage unfold.

Sad news, not sure how they can lose this many jobs without it having a significant impact on their operations. Fingers crossed grass roots doesn't take a big hit.
