Marosi, Moore, Collins and Wilson all regressed.
That's beyond debate. The question is why?
It might be nothing to do with the coaching but to not question the person whose job title is goalkeeping coach would be peculiar to say the least.

Did marosi regress or did he just not make the step up?

Moore had personal issues which massively affected him.

Wilson - how he was when we first got him to where he is now is leaps and bounds. It's just wrong that he has regressed. He was never good and he's nothing more than average now.

Collins is the only one who has actually regressed in my books.

My honest opinion is that none of the goal keepers were particularly good to begin with.

1. Marosi didn't regress. We signed him for L1 and and we got promoted, broke his cheeckbone in the Championship and lost his place, L1 is his level and always has been
2. Moore by all accounts dealt with personal issues around the time his form dropped off
3. Wilson had 1 good season, but we can all agree even that season that CS stats flattered to deceive
4. Collins 'good form' had one good stretch of around 10 games (even RCC managed this) where had a high save % but overall faced a relatively low xG, also wasn't first choice to begin with

It's an overly simplistic view to say its the GK coach's fault, especially when the talent wasn't amazing to begin with. It's similar to the whole weird fixation with Dr Roberts being responsible for the teams results (rather than Robins lmao) because her job title was 'performance director'.

But we didn't sign Wilson in the golden glove season... He improved from when he was signed, him returning to his norm is not surprising.

It's like strikers who are one season wonders.

His head doesn’t go down after a mistake whereas Collins just implodes. A first choice keeper will concede quite a few goals over a season, they need to be mentally robust.

Wilson definitely is, but his ability is limited.

To be fair had a moan myself last season over the goalie situation. However, I think in reflection it’s hard to judge and we should leave it to the people who see the coaching every day.

Dovin came on leaps and bounds last year, Wilson is definitely better than when he came in, Rushworth will hopefully keep improving.

Not the point I was making, my point is when assessing the progress or otherwise of a player it seems illogical to want the coaches excluded from the argument.

The players who've bought in to what the new manager and coaches want from them have visibly improved quite a bit. Those who haven't are out on loan at Burton Albion and Reims.

It’s more appropriate to say Wilson peaked in 22/23 rather than regressed in 23/24 who returned to the same player that was dropped in 21/22. That’s the view I take.

You see it all the time that players have 1 season that is a complete outlier.

Agree except for Collins. I think Collins and Wilson are on a par and personally I would have Wilson slightly ahead. Mainly because Wilson bounces back from mistakes better.

Marosi wasn't the same after having his cheekbone smashed. To be fair he also benefited from having a very good back 3 (certainly by League 1 standards) in front of him, which probably made him look better than he was.

He's also brave, which Collins isn't.

He's not first choice quality, but he's million miles better than Collins.
