If it keeps Connor Thomas out of the team, I'm all for it.

I've always admired Alan Smith, but i dont think he has been as good since we went from a Striker, to an attacking midfielder to a defensive midfielder. Top attacking player but i dont think he has the stamina or speed to keep up with attacking opposition players. I would love to see him come here on a 1 year deal, but seeing as we're most likely signing Prutton, i cant see it

[h=1]Alan Smith: Notts County sign ex-England & Man Utd man[/h]
Notts County have completed the signing of former England international Alan Smith on a one-year contract.
The 33-year-old former Leeds United, Manchester United and Newcastle United man, who started his career as a striker but now plays in midfield, will also take on a coaching role.
Smith, capped 19 times by England, was not offered new terms by MK Dons for next season.
He told BBC East Midlands Today: "I'll bring a drive to succeed at all costs."

It think he even featured in Shoot (or similar) magazine when he was with us.

I got his autograph in the stands at Sheffield Wednesday back in 1986, or maybe even the quarter final in 87, not sure. I always used to confuse him in my head wth Martin Lane, another hardly-playing defender of the immediate pre-FA cup era.

Who was responsible for signing Dean Emerson? Shame he got crocked as he was being scouted for England?

Geneuine question Grendel as I don't know the answer.....
