Sorry to bore people with this stuff again. My eldest daughter, 19, is back from Uni and looking for a summer job.
She's done bar work, and relatively high end waitressing, and she's not scared of doing warehousing or admin or anything like that, and she's got a driving licence.
Despite all this, and registering with various temp agencies, she's not finding much out there (which in truth, surprised me).
I thought I'd reach out here for a bit of advice or recommendations. All ideas welcomed, thanks in advance.
Can't be any help I'm afraid but it seems to be the same story everywhere. Not got kids myself but my mates who have kids who are either back from uni or looking for permanent jobs can't find anything.
Sad seeing them getting increasingly desperate for anything and in some cases submitting hundreds of applications and hardly even getting responses let alone job offers.
so it is finding jobs that are done by students in term time, now they have gone back, the returning students would be available
In our day it was retail, but that is not so much of an option now - so will be things like hospitality including hotels / warehouse work as you have already mentioned and potentially the larger super markets
Get her into retail, best experience you can get as a a young person imo. I'm currently encouraging my daughter (lower 6th) to do the same and the beauty is you can pick up and drop off in hols or possibly transfer to a store near uni. May even end up with a FT career after (fast-tracked with degree).
Has a bit of everything, numbers, dealing with cash, customer facing, stock taking, stock replenishment, purchasing, back of house and of course a discount shop too! Really get to see a small snippet of lots of jobs before committing to anything.
Is there anything at Aldi or Lidl? I keep seeing that they are recruiting, and apparently, the wages aren't actually that bad?
I know Home Bargains usually has youngsters working there as I made the mistake of trying to get alcohol and they had to get somebody to come and approve it!

Hello mate , my Daughter has worked at Miller and carter { on Kenpas Highway} for the last couple of years whilst back from uni they might be looking for staff, wages are decent and the tips are fantastic
Thanks again, all. I'm passing all of the ideas on.
As it goes she's just picked up some bar/waitress work at one of the hotels up by us, but not sure how many shifts she'll get, so the advice here is very much appreciated, thank you.
