Till January? only reason I can think is there must be some sort of deal going on? We need to off load before we can sign I imagine.

It's simply a short loan extention to allow for extra negotiation on permanant deal.

If it is just an extra week, that breathing space to work out a proper deal would make sense and be very encouraging.

Its a slightly odd one this.
we need two here for this position ,just seen that the Portsmouth administrator has intimated many players will be leaving ,specifically John Harley ,slightly long in the tooth but a quality player.

Yep, BBC says 16 Jan too.

It's one of two things.

1. We aim to sign him permanently.

2. He's not staying cos we can't afford him, but we agreed with Sunderland to have him to cover the next 3 games while we try to bring someone else in.

I'm thinking it's gonna be like the Leon Clarke deal, intially say it's a loan then tell us it's a permanent deal. Or along those lines anyway.

It's only 8 days as by that time MR will be appointed Doncaster manager as he's had enough of the ACL/SISU saga and will make Blair Adams his first signing with them!!!

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/co...to-sign-blair-adams-on-a-free-92746-32566341/

Coventry City have extended the stay of Sunderland left-back Blair Adams with a view to signing him on a permanent deal.
It is understood the Black Cats will allow the 21-year-old, who is a free agent in the summer, to leave the Stadium of Light on a free transfer.
Adams has made 12 appearances for the Sky Blues since arriving from the Premier League club in November 2012.

The deal makes Adams eligible for Thursday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy area semi-final with Preston at the Ricoh Arena and the home clash with Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday, January 16.
City manager Mark Robins said: "We want to keep him as long as we can."

Asked if he is looking to get him on a permanent contract, Robins said: "I don't want to comment on that yet but he has been a catalyst for change and added great balance to the team."

We must be negotiating some kind of compensation package, sell on clauses, etc then

He wouldn't be free as he's under 24, but all seems to be being done amicably, so fingers crossed for a permie deal.

Individually he may not be a standout FB, but as MR says, it's a 'team' he's building (and it's probably the first one of those we've seen in years!).
