Is he this year's Jordan Clarke? Told to leave but then forces his way back in with a positive reaction and attitude?

Personally I hope he stays. Yes we all know he has limitations. But if we are playing 352 then we are gonna need to have a fair few centre midfielders on the books. Plus in a midfield 3 his defensive frailties will be less exposed compared to when he has played in a central 2 for us, and he'll be able to play his natural game more freely.

I doubt we will play a 3-5-2 regularly. If we're using wing backs, it'll be tough to fit in O'Brien and Swanson. Sounds like it'll be our back-up plan.
He had a good run in the side middle of last season, but there must be something Pressley doesn't like about him. Possibly work ethic?

To be fair it's not just Pressley, Robins quickly bombed him out the side when he arrived too, and he didn't get a kick on loan at Fleetwood towards the end of last season either.

He's featured on just 36 league games in 2 seasons, and he hasn't been out injured during that time.

To be fair, that's twice as many as Mohamed Coulibaly has had in his entire career (2 years older) and he was only injured last season. And Barton was recovering from a long term injury when he joined us.

So by your logic we shouldn't have signed Coulibaly :p

I agree we shouldn't of signed him. We've had plenty of sick notes over the last few years (bell, mcpake, etc). You can't afford to be wasting money on injury prone players.

But my point was it's not just SP that doesn't rate Barton, Robins bombed him out the side too. And as he's actually our player, we payed a decent fee for him and have been paying his wages for 2 years, he has failed to force himself in the side with 2 players younger than him (Thomas and Daniels) have been above him in the pecking order.

Like I said he has only featured in 46 league game due to not being good enough, not due to injury. And year after a long term lay off you can make some excuses for his first season, but they must surely be null and void for last season.

He has good technique, looks nice on the ball, but is serious lacking mentally and physically.

I think Baker has pissed somebody off, especially with his facebook comments he keeps deleting.

whilst i havent got his pay slip in front of me, why would bournemouth send him to us for free when they could have him as part of their squad doing the same thing ?

To get him fit and get him game time, which he won't get in the championship. I imagine we're contributing little to his wages, but like you think it's a waste of a signing.

Perhaps they feel he will be higher up the pecking order here if fit and potentially get more game time in. Hopefully then return to them in January and hit the ground running. Or he may no longer be part of their plans and they want to get him fit and get him back in the shop window.

It should be Carl Baker because if he has half a brain he won't be forced to do the same job somewhere else for less money.

If he does that can we afford to have someone of his ability and wages sitting there doing nothing? No we can't

We would be forced to use him and he will have a point to proof.

Low and behold we get our creative midfielder.

Just a shame he will need to catch up in the fitness

I think a midfield 3 would really suit Barton. I like him a lot, my kind of player. But he's got to learn to press if he's going to play for Pressley.

I'd like to see him come good too, both for the team and for himself. There's got to be something gritty about the bloke, because he's certainly not throwing the towel in. It would be great to see everyone get behind him and really give him some encouragement - maybe a bit of confidence would make all of the difference.

He's definitely a confidence player, unfortunately those don't tend to do well at City.

Barton is probably the most creative player on the clubs books. Unfortunately tackling is not part of his make up.
