A few words on Murphy and Christie... (3 Viewers)

Firstly, Joe Murphy. He got a fair amount of stick at the start of the season for a few dodgy mistakes. But recently he has been excellent. He made an absolute world class save today when he tipped Austin's header on to the post, it was an outstanding stop.

Just as it took Cody a while to find his feet and score a goal, just as it took Marlon King bloody ages to score his first goal, so it takes a keeper to settle in. But obviously a keeper's mistakes are highlighted much more.

So well done Joe, keep it up.

Now on to Cyrus. As a bit of a contrast to Murphy, this kid has had so much praise heaped on him this season. Some of it deserved - he's got a number of assists and provides a great outlet down the right.

However defensively I just don't think he's ready yet. He's very naive and his positioning is often very poor. Thankfully he's very quick and compensate a little.

Don't get me wrong I think he will be a great player in a few years, but for now I personally would feel a lot more comfortable with Keogh at right back.

Yea I was saying in another thread I think Christie is being slightly overrated by our fans, the amount of times he went to head the ball today and misjudged the flight of the ball. I think he is a good prospect for the future but is not ready for championship football week in week out yet, I would feel more comfortable with Clarke or Keogh playing there.

Strongly agree with both points. But I also understand better than ever after today why AT likes Keogh at CB: he is now a better ball-playing CB than Cranie, and was spreading the ball out of the defence superbly. Alan Poole said the way he did that against Leeds was Beckenbauer-esque at times. What we really need is a fit Jordan Clarke-and oh, how I was mocked when I said that earlier in the season!

I agree but for now I would rather see Keogh at RB with another partnering Wood in the centre of defence.

Only really leaves Cameron, and Wood and him are pretty poor passers.

Yea I guess.

Why don't we ask SISU to release funds for a loan or two?:thinking about:

And there we are, back to the nub of the problem!

considering we got murphy on a free and that our squad isn't exactly that great anyway, I think he was a steal, I'm so glad we managed to get him.

I think Murphy on a free was a good bit of business and, considering our financial status, I was pleased he chose us. He is a good Championship 'keeper. Westwood was an excellent Championship 'keeper. Murphy is not Westwood, but those who have singled him out as a weak link are typical of football fans (not exclusively City) who get a bee in their bonnet about particular players and can't see the wood for the trees. We're all guilty, at times. Christie has faded just a little, for me. He has all the physical attributes and shows enough to suggest he is a great asset, but the reason he is playing so often is because we are a squad down to the bare bones. I struggled to understand all the stick Jordan Clarke got and Keogh can certainly do a job there too. I would love us to have some competition for Hussey and I miss just how imperious Wood and McPake were together back in the day. Mind you, I didn't go today as I had to relinquish my season ticket to go out with the girlfriend's parents on the proviso I go to see us at Donny next week. Since we are due a point or three, I feel I got off lightly.
