It's a shame but they were always going to hang these out to dry or there would have been uproar about injustice again. Anything less than guilty verdicts will also have the families saying they've been let down.
Tbh those who covered it up and lied should be prosecuted, but you have to feel for Duckenfield a little. He has been charged with 95 counts of manslaughter for an honest mistake - someone who wasn't experienced enough to have even been in charge in the first place. The bloke is a bit of a tool from what I've seen, but with mounting pressure ad the crush going on outside, can anyone of us say that we too wouldn't have opened those gates? He couldn't forsee what was going to happen and looks like a bit of scapegoating.
Of course if it was my family I'd likely feel different, but as a result of Hillsborough things changed dramatically in stadium safety and I don't see what will be achieved by these hugely expensive and long trials that will now take place. Some will say justice won't have been served, but the ongoing witch-hunt, some of these have already been on trial by tv and the public and hounded for 28 years.
You're right they are mind boggling:-
1) I already posted that I'd likely feel differently if it was my family, so no need to add that .
2) With that pressure to open those gates and seeing what was going on outside - what would you have done (on the day not in hindsight)?
3) The point was about the operational procedure at other big games, he hadn't controlled any other big games and was out of his depth here - why was he put in charge of this one as his first big game?
4) So because others have made up stories eg the Sun etc and other police officers, he should be hounded too - nice logic.
I agree with point 3, all that means is that his superiors should be in the dock as well.
Point 4, he was complicit in that slandering, as were many in the South Yorkshire police force.
Absolutely unbelievable, people went to a football match and never came home, the crushIt's a shame but they were always going to hang these out to dry or there would have been uproar about injustice again. Anything less than guilty verdicts will also have the families saying they've been let down.

Absolutely unbelievable, people went to a football match and never came home, the crush
That claimed their lives, injured many, and devastated people's lives was totally avoidable.
The problem was not opening the gates, it was opening the wrong gates, while people were
Being crushed to death in the centre pens, others in the side pens were sunbathing in half
Empty pens. Those in charge had the benefit of close circuit tv, had they opened the side
Gates instead of the center ones, we wouldn't be talking about this now.
It was a terrible tragedy bought about by a catastrophic catalogue of errors by the very people
Who were there to ensure people's safety and prevent this sort of thing from happening.
Guilt should have been accepted by both individuals and organisations at the time, any court
Proceedings and prosecutions should have been concluded at that time.
Had this happened, my guess is that those guilty would have received fairly lenient treatment,
Lessons would have been learned and the bereaved would have been able to grieve their
Loved ones and try to rebuild their lives. This wasn't allowed to happen.
While people were drawing their last breath crushed against those steel railings, the cover up
Was already well under way, families turning up at the makeshift mortuary were made to feel
Like their dead Son, Daughter, Brother, Father, etc was a criminal and sealed their own fate.
One of the first things the police did in the immediate aftermath was test every dead body
For alcohol level, even the children, as soon as a body was identified they frantically checked
For a criminal record,
On duty police officers had their statements changed, those that didn't comply were bullied
And harassed and threatened with their jobs.
I hope all those charged are convicted, I hope all those charged receive sentences that
Reflect the magnitude of their disgusting abhorrent behaviour.
I also hope the families of the 96 that died will at last have peace of mind, it's one thing
To lose a loved one in such circumstances, but it's another for your loved one to then
Be vilified and blamed for it.
What's it called? So glad Bettison is getting charged.......simply cannot fathom how he was appointed as chief constable of Merseyside less than a decade after the tragic & criminal event
...guess it just shows the utter contempt with which those in power held the victims & their families.....
....and then the prick goes & writes his book about Hillsborough.......un-fucking-believable.
EDIT: It would be sweet if his "version of events" from his book are used in some small way by the prosecution to secure a conviction.....
Absolutely agreeSuperb post.
Shame the editor of the Sun at the time isn't up for slander and character defamation of the 96 victims and everyone else that was there that day.
He only printed what he was told though. As much as you'll love it Ian, it was unfortunately the fault of the Conservative gov't at the time. Along with the police they fed those lies to the paper and he printed - why wouldn't he? His biggest mistake (imo) was not apologising quickly enough.

Reprehensible rag, it serves no purpose other than to protect the rights and moreGood. The lies that were told at the time were shocking beyond belief. Surely there must be something that could be thrown at SUN editors and reporters from the time given how complicit they were in the lie?
And yet every other Newspaper at the time rejected the story as unsafe and very unlikely,
The graphic pictures of people gasping for their last breath that accompanied the lies were
also considered to upsetting. Not for Kelvin Though 'he loved it 'he revelled in it, odious
Fucking creature that he is, I hope he rots in hell, and gets there quicker than he might
Expect.
Is it really wise making death threats on a public forum?
not really a threat, more of a wish.
Regardless, I don't expect to come on here and read such vile abuse. I've reported the post to the police.

If you consider anything I've said as vile abuse, then I strongly advise you to never readRegardless, I don't expect to come on here and read such vile abuse. I've reported the post to the police.
