48 Years and All That (1 Viewer)

CCFC fans are a durable and committed lot none more than me I suppose, now in my 48th year as a season ticket holder having missed just 8 home games primarily due to inconsiderate wedding dates, badly planned holidays and various injuries.

I remember the game against Bayern Munich at home winning 2-1 and my clumsiness resulting in me breaking my ankle at half time falling down the toilet steps. I managed to hobble back to my seat to watch the second half and was then carted off to hospital by my brother.

During the miners strike in 1972 and the three day week one of which was a Saturday, I had a choice by my boss "go to the game or risk losing your job" - I went of course but the game was a crap 0-0 bore against Chelsea.

Other people's weddings were a nightmare to my Sky Blue diary - on three occasions I finished my soup starter, legged it the match and returned to finish off the dessert - not well received by her indoors I may add.

Missing games is just totally unacceptable to me and despite our fluctuations in form, choice of manager or style of play I will always be there supporting my beloved Sky Blues because Ithink that's what I was born to do.

I am sure there are many more like me.

A good few years ago I was ostracized by Mrs Scam's family when one of her multitude of neices had a confirmation ceremony on a CCFC matchday. My argument was that as a humanist it would be hypocritical to attend such a ceremony, and went to the match instead. Mrs Scam was not impressed! Since then Mrs Scam and all her brothers and sisters have renounced the Catholic Church, and have joined me on the secular dark side!
