A TEENAGE Sky Blues fan who lobbed a smoke grenade onto the pitch during the first match of the season has been banned from football games for three years

Cameron Ross, aged 18, was spotted throwing the explosive during the second half of the game against Yeovil Town on August 18.

He was charged with throwing a missile at a football match a few days later and appeared in court on Friday.

Ross, of Cook Close, Longford, admitted the charge in court and was handed the three-year football banning order as well as a £150 fine.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “If someone is convicted of a football related crime, be it violence or anti-social behaviour, we will seek a banning order from the court.

“That order can be imposed for between three and ten years.

“The act can be at a ground or away from a ground, but if it’s football related we will seek a banning order.”

Adrian Hopper, spokesman for Yeovil Town, said police spotted Ross throwing a smoke grenade during the match and arrested him immediately.

He was then thrown out of the ground shortly after the incident.

As well being ordered to pay a fine, the teenager was also told to pay £100 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Three years is the shortest banning order that can be handed down but if Ross breaches it he could be hit with a prison sentence of up to six months.

According to the most recent home office statistics there are 31 Coventry City fans subject to football banning orders.

And Ross is not the first Sky Blues fan to find himself in court after trouble during an away match in League One. Last month Sean Griffiths, 25, appeared in court charged with a public order offence after he verbally abused a ballboy during the game at Crewe.

Own up, who on here was it? :thinking about:

3 year ban from football?

Lucky bastard.

The Ricoh will look like Hiroshima with all the smoke coming out of it the next home game as everybody tries to get the same "punishment" as this bloke.

As much as it was a silly thing to do, 3 years is a bit excessive I think. We need every fan we can get at the moment!
