😂 Honestly man, if i knew more i would say. He rarely gives a name until it's virtually done. I literally just asked him on Saturday if there were any more whispers about incomings, his words were we had been monitoring a midfielder from abroad and made an enquiry about a Championship winger. So i was just left to discuss who it could be.

I don't get much from him but what he does tell me usually turns out to be good. Everything he told me in the summer was pretty spot on. Apart from Sheaf, i don't think anyone saw that coming, it was very last minute.
Probably a cheeky offer for Mehmeti with 6 months left on his contract.

Mehmeti would be a serious signing. Get it done Doug, empty those moths from your wallet.

I can see King wishing for promotion and staying there as Sunderland are doing, I don't think he wants us to be a yoyo club, and with that in mind some of the players coming in January will be players that can make it in the Premiership, and although the Oxford lad is good I'm not sure if he can make it at a higher level. As a few have mentioned loanees from Premeiership clubs or abroad seem more likely.

Mehmeti is predominantly an AM, that's been his position for Bristol City this season too. Surely @Jimmy87's source wouldn't call him a winger if he's an AM that has played LW as a secondary position.

No i wouldn't think so either but an AM also comfortable at LW sounds ideal for us. Especially a quality one like that.

Doesn't Wilder chuck Hamer on the wing for some bizarre reason? Might be time for a few of our regulars to start rubbing one out. It's happening.

It does sound ideal, but probably doesn't sound like the player Jimmy's source is describing as much as I want it to be the case because he's a top end Championship player.

He'd have been on my small list of players who i think could (emphasis on could) step up to the Prem.

I share your view personally. It's just interesting that Bamford was going to be signed until King pulled the plug. It begs a few questions:
1) Why did Lampard want him?
2) Why did King veto the move?
3) Is there a backup plan from either King/Lampard?

The answer imo is that we have someone else in mind in Jan, be a loan or permanent.

I’m convinced Lampard just doesn’t like Simms as a player. And King has told him to find a buyer then. Simms was a significant investment and could have cost us £8.5m if we go up this season.

Lampard likes him, he was second choice behind Haji last season. This season, Haji and BTA’s form has meant you can’t drop either right now and had Simms scored v Pompey, probably gets a a start v Watford.

That’s all academic. Lampard has shown a willingness to be meritocratic in team selection so expect Simms to start v Boro, with or without BTA.

Probably sounds ridiculous to say this, but I still believe Simms to be the goal scorer overall. BTA is 1 goal shy of his best goal scoring season and we’re still in November, he’s having a career-best season.

To be fair, something seems to be clicking in Simms’ head in recent games, in the nick of time as far as all parties are concerned.

You say that but he seemed Bamford worth pursuing.

rumoured by who? Jimmy has only said a championship winger.

we’ve been interested in him before and he’s fully dropped out of consideration at oxford
Think this is a good shout to be honest for who it is.

Helps he can cover AM, RW and LW so would give us good depth and is a good age to develop

4 for me maybe I'm an imbecile to think we need cover at LB DM and 2 wingers but I think Frank feels the same way.

Let's stick with the little old Cov mindset though. We'll be fine to run Tats into the ground... Grimes never gets injured.. yeah Bidwell can definitely be adequate cover. Let's pretend EMC doesn't have record for injuries. We'll be fine and it's totally worth gambling this amazing opportunity we have just so we don't upset the precious feels of a few fringe players 🙄

Madness, we have been short of depth for years now is the time to act. Nobody needs to come in on a promise when we are a very attractive proposition for loads of players. A massive chance for any permanent signings to be a prem player in 6 months. A really good experience for loanees. But they would have to fight for their place. The Burnley players not playing is irrelevant, cover and depth isn't starters is it, it's an insurance plan. Hopefully we can survive with the minimal changes but sod risking not having cover if the worst happens

Well you've changed your tune, I thought we needed to replicate Burnley?

It's not little old Cov mindset, you do realise that operating in the Jan window is actually incredibly difficult and the more signings you make the bigger margin for error right?

Unless you're a parachute club you're not going to get like for like talent in every position, it's completely unrealistic and it's also a hard sell when potential targets are going to be in competition with players in rich reigns of form.

Another 2-3 signings should actually give us sufficient depth across pretty much every position. As of those players I'd imagine one or two will be capable of playing multiple positions.

Think it’s the most pragmatic but doubt he’d be the only one to come through the door.

Especially as I don’t think whoever we sign for the CAM or RW backup will be starting over Saka or Rudoni but more so understudying
is £5m on someone who’s 23 and never ripped up this league really pragmatic?
