I think we should have a look at this Binks chap who plays for Brondby. He was the outfield player of the match in the Europa Conference League match against Strasbourg:

He's probably just what we need.

😊
He's too cultured for the championship. Over the years we have had players who were just too good for us. Gillespie, Keane, Pearce, Wallace, Yorath. For different reasons they had to move on and Binks, I believe, will be one of them. it wouldn't surprise me if he does the same as Viktor and develops abroad (I know Binks has done so before) and in a couple of years where he is constantly playing European football comes back to a high end premiership club.

Just on what @shmmeee was asking earlier, I spoke to my mate who’s an Ipswich fan about Woolfenden and he said “He’ll be alright for you guys, bit inconsistent and would be more of a bench option for us but he’s solid enough. Only decent at the right price though.” So to me that seems like a polite way of saying he’s alright but nothing amazing. Also, if Ipswich are happy to ditch a player to a top 6 rival then he can’t be that amazing, mixed feelings on Woolfenden atm.
Well that’s a lie, you haven’t got any mates!

i know you are a burner but he's a cb who is great on the ball but lacks at defending

I think at this stage of the window I would like us to just target loans from Prem sides and identify an exciting talent that needs minutes as opposed to buying someone for inflated fees that other clubs don’t really want to part with.

Surely someone young will want to play for a legend like Frank.

None us us have the info since the kitman was given his marching orders. FL hasn't said much. What he did say was that every window is fluid. We clearly have targets and options. We are fortunately at the stage where we are recruiting good players and other teams (in the Champ and elsewhere) would also like to sign good players. Those who already have good players are not always keen to sell them.
Scenario 1 - was clearly that Milan would be sold for in the region of £10m, therefore KKH was added in advance. That hasn't happened yet and may not transpire in this window. That isn't disastrous management or lack of ambition. It's maintaining a responsible approach.
I'm sure there will be plans in place for whatever the outgoings are. Remember KKH could play further up the right flank if required, so £4m on a backup argument falls down there. In the bad old days we'd have taken the 6m Euro on Milan from Besiktas. I'm sure we will bring a CB in to replace Binks in the squad, whether than is a loan or permanent none of us know. But it is clear to me it won't be the second coming of Arjan De Zuew. Stability when you finished with the second highest points of last years Championship, competing this year is good. It boggles my mind that some want a 'total clear out' every season just for the thrill of making 10/12 new signings who will take time to settle and may not improve us. Maybe I'm wrong and we should spaff £35m on new players and Doug walk away saying he 'gave it a go' while Reading and Shef Wed fans post 'solidarity' messages on here consoling us.

So on the contract extension. Thinks it’s fair to assume the contracts had clauses in them.

Allen and Wilson being the two extended and I get both tbh. Especially as Allen is often a dependable backup when we at times struggle with injuries in midfield.

On MVE being a sacrificial lamb for the transfer window, I think it’s a half truth would we have spent more if he left? Probably as Doug has a habit of passing player fees back into the playing squad.

But I do think we have a budget shown by the bids for Hughes and Woolfden of around £8 million. It’s just getting quality players in this market seems to be a nightmare. We could probably sign league one CBs but the club is trying to bring in quality not quantity.

Still think we sign the Fulham winger for around £1 million and then sign Woolfden especially as they’ve just bid for a CB.

If we do both, then it’s a good window imo. Great would be replacing one of the strikers and who knows maybe that link has legs as well

Signing Woolfenden and the Fulham winger for me wouldn’t be a good window. It would be below my expectations of a team ‘going for it’

I’m not sure we are going for it at least not in the same way as Birmingham and Wrexham can due to their much higher wealth than us.

For me, keeping our key players and improving our options would be a good window for what we could realistically could accomplish.

But we have a great team already, one that finished 5th and only lost in the play offs (to the team that won promotion) because of a bad back pass and a 121st minute lapse of concentration from a shattered set of players.

We don't need many players, just quality to add depth with he have been doing.

Also where does the money come from for your "going for it" without us selling Rudi etc? CCFC is a loss making company and there is not endless reserves of money.

Team saying "actually cov Watford also want him so increase your bid please lads" or agent saying: "Watford have offered him X - you need to beat it"

Realising that almost all transfer news is either horseshit or a negotiating tactic really lets you not care that much about it all.

My prediction is both Todo and Woolfenden will be here by the close of the window and we'll have dumped a few fringe players out eg. Collins

I remember when we first sold Gus and Vik and pretty much to a man even the ones pissing the sheets now said if Doug gave just half of that back to Robins and put the rest towards the running of the club they'd have been happy. Doug gave all of that and significantly more to Robins as it happens. He's also given some to Frank with some more obviously still there to play with... we can't go and absolutely spunk our load without a significant sale, i'm not sure what we want at this point?
We cannot do what Birmingham are doing and neither should we look to, its completely reckless.
We will see at least 2 more, i'm absolutely confident of that.

Signing a highly rated keeper, a highly rated right back, a new left back and a proven championship centre half to replace Binks plus more competition for the Wings whilst retaining all your key players …. What the f did you expect ???

I think you’ve got to ask questions about the spend on KKH if MvE going wasn’t cast iron, and if it meant no other improvements outfield. You can justify each thing on its own but Doug and Deans job is to see the overall picture and I’m not sure its worked out this summer.

You’re missing my point.

Doug and Dean sit down last season and decide were going to sell Milan. Well first we should see if anyone is out there who might pay £10m for a RB outside the PL and if so what other options are on the market. Basically is this a thing that’s actually going to happen or not? We aren’t taking him to CEX we need an interested buyer and that kind of deal takes months to finalise. If there were no serious buyers sniffing at the start of the summer it’s time for plan B.

But again if we were hanging everything of a big sale why the bids for players? We’ve clearly got money but feel the squad is too big maybe, so why extend Eccles Allen Bidwell and Wilson who are all nowhere near the first team?

It’s shit management decision after shit management decision I’m sorry. An no I don’t accept Lampard just doesn’t want to sign anyone.
And you told me that I needed to go outside and touch some grass 🤣

We bid £7m for Hughes and £6m for Rushworth. We just sold Binks for £2.5m and had Gyokeres sell on fee for somewhere around £2.5m-3m… that’s where!

So to confirm, we have tried to improve the squad further? Also Wolfenden was a regular in a team that got promoted out of this league, he’d be a very good signing

Birmingham can't really do what they are doing unless the get promoted in the next couple of seasons which they don't look like they are at that level yet.

He's the same age as Harry Darling and unlike Darling he's actually achieved what we ultimately want to, yet Darling became a forum darling.. if you will. I think some people get names in their heads and get stuck on it
