I disagree on EMC, he's far from one of our biggest problems. I do like Wright on the left though, but i fear Lampard doesn't, which is one thing i'd disagree with him massively on.

Yeah, insistence on wright down the middle every time is really frustrating me…..seeing BTA moved to the left to accommodate that even more so !

I hope lampards just giving it one final go before deciding Wrights more effective coming in from the left and to buy a central striker but might be just wishful thinking.

For all the frustrations with Simms (some understandable), him down the middle and wright on the left for final 20 mins would’ve been far more effective on Saturday than Wright down the middle and BTA/Brau on left.

EMC does nothing he finally took his man on in the second half beat him him and then switched off again, hopelessly one footed, he just wants to show how he can hold off the full back and never take him on he’s a passenger
I’m with you on this - he very rarely beats his man - after 47 laborious step-overs, he typically turns back inside, lays it off, and then we play it back to Kitching. Sigh.

To be fair, if / when he does get past his man, or has some space, he can stand up a great ball to the back post.

Personally, I think he’s a bit too ‘heavy’ to be an effective winger - he’s obviously muscular which doesn’t really lend itself to that position, so he always looks heavy legged.

I thought that he looked like he had lost a lot of bulk but it doesn’t seem to have made any difference.

You don't let him get in the box with the ball at his feet! That's why every team tries to pin him tight to the line and give him no room, if we could get someone to give him options to pass it into the box he wouldn't turn back like he does.

I like EMC, but agree he has always looked a bit heavy. Pre-season looked like he had slimmed down a bit.

Felt he played OK on Saturday, definitely a handful but sometimes he does way too much before just getting the ball in. In general, that laboriousness is what plagues the entire team. We have no other gear, and it's predictable and easy to defend against.

I like EMC but he was anonymous on Saturday. Feels like every time he has started to play well he’s picked up an injury. His best features are his strength and his desire to get into scoring positions. He should be getting 10 goals a season for us. Will that happen? The jury is still out.

So we were supposed to have a ‘promotion recruitment plan’ and a non promotion recruitment plan and we’ve signed a goalkeeper to replace an injured one, a right back to replace the one we are selling and a left back cause our current pair are no good. Hardly a summer of signings and giving them time to get to know the players and gel in before the season starts

For the money we paid for EMC, it’d be nice if he actually took on his man more than 1-2 times a game. He looked very leggy and heavy Saturday.

He really needs to be more positive, far too negative in his general play. Whether that’s management or him who knows. He’s played like that majority of his time here.

all this talk about lack of strikers but EMC doing 3 yard passes backwards virtually everytime he gets the ball is a big factor we hardly create anything.

If we sign someone who's effective in the middle of that front 3, there's every chance they won't play second fiddle to Wright. Can we stop pretending he's great in that central position too? He's better than the others there but that's not saying much.
He has never played consistently through the middle for us, uninjured. We havent seen enough of it to judge. The game we did see he scored a hattrick and throughout his career scored goals there.
Lampard has definitely stated he will play through the middle and see’s him as a CF, all forum chat about being “more effective on the left” is pointless

He wasn't fully fit on Saturday which probably affected how he played.

I think some fans forget the inflation that has taken place in transfer fees.

We pay £3.5m and expect the ready made consistent article …. That’s not what £3.5m buys you in 2025.it buys you potential.

When you buy potential some instantly come off ( Rudi, MVE Tats), some take time, and some won’t.

For ready made top end championship players you are now looking at £9m+ and more if they are a striker …

Ok but that's what people do on forums.
Throughout his career is also a stretch, he only started scoring regularly in Turkey and before that a brief spell in Denmark. Did he play in a front 3 or a 2?
I'm a big fan of Haji, i think he's one of our better players but he's untouchable with some on here and its weird, he often looks completely ineffective down the middle.

Not buying a subscription but seems obvious. Hopefully club have something lined up
Need us to get one so i can win another forum argument with those that thought our strike force was good enough.
Already 1 up on those that thought we'd go into the season with Ben Wilson in goal.
Forum points at stake here.

The evidence all points to FL wanting rid of Simms and Bassette. Concerns me that he keeps starting with BTA, probably just based on work rate.

Think if he could bin off all 3 he would.

I'd agree with him too. Wishful thinking to bin off all that in 1 window though.

His goal record buys him respect from me but you’re basically giving up one position to get it and it’s rather than a LW than ST TBH

I genuinely think if we get a competent centre forward in, Wright is far from the nailed on starter that a lot in here seem to think he is right now.

I'm not sure you're right about him being one footed. He gets plenty of left footed crosses in!

This article is an absolute nothingburger.

The only mention about a striker is this:

'Coventry’s need for a clinical striker was laid bare. It has become a repeated plea from their supporters, with Brandon Thomas-Asante doing little to inspire their fanbase.

The benefit of an early August start is that the club at least have the remainder of the month to address this issue before the transfer window closes.'

I do wonder with both our wingers how their special move being chopping back two or three times makes it a lot harder for strikers to time their runs as they never know when it’s coming in and the fact neither are great crossers means you never know where it’s coming either really. Saka probably closest to consistent placement but you never know when it’s coming.
