That's got to be one of the most ridiculous questions that gets asked every pre-season,

Like any of us are paid talent scouts or something!

I mean how many of us could honestly say we'd heard of Hamer or Gyokeres, or Sakamoto, MvE, or Torp etc.?

Another dumb arse statement that pops up every pre-season is "we can't afford his wages" when referring to an out of contract player,
What don't people understand about "out of contract" who do they think is paying these "out of contract player" ffs?

And another thing that boils my piss is any rumour that originates from Alan fucking Nixon, when will people realise he just scans the web and posts any bullshit rumour he can find, that's his job ffs, he gets paid for column inches not accuracy, he's posting BS 90% of the time.

Anyway, rant over!

I feel better now!

Whilst Wright getting into the World Cup squad may mean a better season from him overall, if he does get into the squad is it possible that he will do doing everything possible to avoid injury towards the end of the season?
Would he put his body on the line if we are fighting for the playoffs again. Surely the bigger motivation for him would be the world cup?

Surely getting into the PL and landing a huge pay rise would be better than a couple of weeks (probably as an unused sub) at the world cup?

When Wright hasn't started under Lampard:

Games: 21
Goals: 32
Goals Per Game: 1.52 (overall was 1.39)
Over a season: 70 goals (overall was 64)

We scored more than average when Wright was not in the team...

Just don’t think the tactics suit wright. Doesn’t mean that they can’t in the future mind with some tweaking

Or we could sell him, while his value is still high, and buy someone who does fit our tactics.

Yeah that’s the choice imo. Do we adapt our tactics to fit in a player we know on his day does the business or sell while his stock is somewhat high after a iffy season and bring in players who better suit the existing tactic.

Personally don’t mind either way, but if we sell Wright hope we get £12 Million plus

The sample size is far too small to make that judgement. I just think it’s down to the team’s form as a whole.

I definitely think we'd get £12million for him.

The issue we have is, hes not particularly good as a centre forward (one good game against Sunderland in the league doesn't convince me) but far better on the LW.
But when fit, EMC is the obvious choice on the LW. Can we justify having a £12million player on the bench when we are crying out for a CF?

For me we try to offload Wright, Simms and BTA (if at all possible) and bring in 2 strikers and possibly another winger as cover.

Easier said than done of course.

It’s difficult because I think at Left wing while Wright is the better playEMC suits more what Lampard wants from his inverted wingers in the system.

Basing this on EMC being in the top 21% for chances created while Wright is in the top 80% (taken from Fotmob).

As such that means Wright is limited to CF without us changing the left winger role to be more of a wide forward which is how Robins played him.

I think this team would benefit from a striker with good hold up and passing skills.

As an idea, wonder if West Brom would sell Maja due to their financial issues. Good with handling the ball with his passing and rarely disposed obviously good shooting record this season.

We would lose out on Arial threat but then would have simms to offer a different option

There's some good suggestion on here. I still think we could do with 2 wingers, 1 on each side as we only have Sakamoto and Mason-Clark as out-and-out wingers, especially as we cross the ball a lot. Raphael may as well go out on loan.

For RW, Dolan from Blackburn is out of contract. 7 goals and 6 assists last season. Only 23.

For LW, Ramazani from Leeds, scored 8 and got 2 assists mostly coming off the bench. Apparently Rangers are in for him. Also Iling-Junior from Middlesbrough on loan from Villa, would be a decent backup to Mason-Clark. Can also play LB.

Is Wright a good player, yes.

Is he one of the top five strikers in the Championship, yes on when he's on it.

Has he been consistent enough while at City, arguably no.

Personally I'd be happy to keep him unless a deal is on the table for £12m+ then I would consider taking it.

We have a guy who is a 15 goal a season striker with essentially 3 years left on his contract. He is easily worth £15m+ in todays market. There is no guarantee any replacement does any better. take Thomas-Asante, good scoring record at baggies but not so much here.

I totally agree that there is no guarantee of a replacement being an upgrade on Haji and BTA is a very good example of how the recruitment team can get it wrong.

It is only my opinion, but Haji blows too hot and cold for me, and I personally don't see a EPL taking a risk on him because of this.

I'd like to see more of the Haji that tore Sunderland apart at the CBS, not the Haji that couldn't score from 3 yards out at Hull.

However if he’s the top scorer in the league and playing for a team that got promoted to the PL that almost certainly guarentees him to be in the front of Poch’s mind

There's no way we get Ramazani. Very highly rated and talented and will either stay at Leeds and get a chance in the prem or be off somewhere else non championship imo.

According to Transfermarkt, Haji is worth £8m and Josh Sargent £16m . Go figure?? Our model is to sell for profit not break even
Sargent seems to have continuous injury problems which may not get any better as he gets older. That price for him in unrealistic.
Before his injury last season, think Haji was pretty good regarding his fitness. It is what his goals are worth to the team rather than some arbitrary price.
Heard EMC was injured at the start of the season and struggled at times with fitness. If he can stay 100% or near that he will be a real threat in this league.
Both Haji and EMC can be a little lax defensively, so they need to score or create regularly to balance the gaps they leave at the back.

Lampard admitted he was unsure how to use Haji to get the best out of him.
Does that mean he may leave or the tactics will be tweaked?

Premier league teams aren’t going to loan us players to be back up unless we pay most of their wages and few prem youngsters are going to leave on a permanent to be second choice in the Championship.

Could see Hadji possibly move to Sunderland. They will have some money to burn and that hattrick he scored against them will no doubt have frustrated but impressed them.

Funnily enough I don’t think clubs choose not to sign players based on a couple of bad games. All players have bad games
