I guess on Dasilva the question would be then if he is going to be a better option than any CM we get in the January window

Well I'd suggest from Kings comments we will have january targets lined up.

Taking a risk on someone whos been injured 2 years is something wed have done in te League 1 years

They are free transfers for a reason. By the time they would be up to speed, it’s late October/November

look at Paterson, he was only able to do 15/20 mins cameo and looked off it when doing that.

we’ve just got keep fingers crossed.

Are there any examples of players who have started a season without a club being signed mid season and being successful at this level?

The nearest one I can think of was, the sadly gone, Sol Bamba who signed as a free agent at Cardiff through the season & got them up... but he had a pre season with Leeds before being released.

Stupid question but Josh Dasilva is Jay's brother isn't he? Ginnelly is from Nuneaton but can't see this being credible.

No hes no relation, there could be something in this, pretty sure Lampard did some coaching work with Brentford and Thomas Frank in his unemployed period, would have seen Josh Dasilva first hand

he’s played 3 games in 2 years and coming back from another acl, he isn’t going to want to be and he likely knows he won’t be first choice anyway.

i wouldn’t sign him regardless, will take him till January to get fit

Jones came off 3 ACLs back to back and is a top end L2 player which where all this started. His ‘ceiling’ was definitely killed off though.

DaSilva is a different case altogether but why couldn’t he get back to his old form? The immediate expectation of him will be to fill in occasionally.

We’re at the point of the window where anyone we sign fits that criteria. With Da Silva, it’s a ‘hit and hope’ signing.

We’ve just got to get to Jan and be aggressive in the market. I can’t help but think there’ll be a change in the recruitment staff before then.

Sounds like we tried to buy him. Makes sense with us trying for Godo at Fulham. Shame it didn't come off.

I read it as we tried for a perm transfer tbf. Think we've got a decent amount of coin left over from this transfer window.

Even so, fail in coming to a deal in a permenant, just get him in on a loan f the time being. Seems fairly amateur.

If true, hopefully they don’t find a club for him on loan as maybe we could set this up for January

Gives us a good amount of time to line a bunch of transfers up for January 1st I suppose, but it's begging for luck with injuries yet again which I thought we'd gotten past. Pity.

I said at the time that palace were waiting for a winger to sign and it never happened, so I imagine they pulled the plug

And I’ve missed the change of status here. Is Nixon a verified source now? I thought every time he published a story about us in the past ppl queued up to say he wasn’t actually ITK.

Unfortunately, there’s a sense of deja vu here because we thought this last year and only secured Grimes before the deadline last year. Paterson signed afterwards.

My gut feeling is that there’ll be a change to the recruitment team because it just seems that we’re struggling to identify the right talent for us.

I don’t think we are struggling to identify the players. Most clubs buy the same data anyway.

We are going after good players but not having fall back options looks pretty amateurish

Without knowing the ins and outs of the recruitment process, it’s two summer windows now where we’ve left significant gaps in the team. If King is saying Lampard is unhappy, whether in jest or not, reveals something hasn’t gone right for whatever reasons. Looking at our bench, the depth just isn’t there to sustain to compete at the v top all season so January needs to be an active window for us imo.

The window got off to a reasonably good start but then nothing happened until deadline day.

There is a massive over simplification of things on here. Basically it comes down to the fact that we’ve got to trust King and his team. They have demonstrated in numerous ways that the good of the club is what they work towards. Let them get on with it.
