This comes in second place.

You’ll be pleased to know that he was inconsolably upset at the same time his mum and I read the Sheaf story.

Alex Matos anyone? Did quite well out on loan with Oxford last season, has played about 40 champ games racking up around 2200 mins. Contract up at the end of the season, only 20. According to transfermarkt he currently doesn’t have a squad number.

Yes, but not seen any link at all so suspect it's unlikely.

He’d do a job. If Rudoni or Grimes get injured for a prolonged period that’s a different matter but that’s because they’re integral to the whole way we play. Not sure anyone we’d get in would replace them like for like unless maybe a prem loan. I wouldn’t have trusted sheaf to do that job (grimes replacement) for the season either as he can’t stay fit. Shame as he was a very good player when playing regularly.

If someone’s offering you 6m+ for a player that’s struggled to stay fit and can’t get in the first 11 you’ve got to take it, unless you’re a parachute club or maybe one or two others. If we’d turned it down and sheaf wasn’t being picked here I can’t imagine he’d have been best pleased either. If the deal gets done he’s probably on for a longer contract on higher wages which considering injury history and the fact he’ll be first choice, he’d want to take

Shame his career hasn't gone how he wanted and we expected, I think he's a decent, honest bloke who suffers injuries that would only keep others out 2/3 weeks. Sad to see him leave, but all things come to an end and Doug is a hard-nosed businessman at the end of the day

If there is an option (if) we'd only trigger that if he was going to go on a free and there was no offers on the table.

Now we have a fair offer, and no doubt targets in mind.

Trust in Doug.

Reading this Athletic article about the potential transfer in Jan, the connection with Joe Edwards, and noting the recent link, it does point to Sam Rak Sakyi coming in as Sheaf replacement.

Sam Rak-Sakyi and a very familiar Chelsea dilemma: Should he stay or should he go?

The 20-year-old has been at Chelsea since under-eight level but has seen his big brother Jesurun kick on since leaving for Crystal Palace

Careful! When I jokingly made a comment about shooting naff players and melting them down for glue on the Ellis Simms thread I was accused of making violent threats!

You wouldn't wanna be lumped in the same category of poster as me!

6.5m for Sheaf is a good deal all round.

Sheaf has been a big part of our improvement but we've outgrown him. Grimes is a much better holding midfielder and spent as many games out while his transfer to us was being sorted as he had missed in the previous 5 seasons.

I see the biggest reason for keeping Sheaf is just in case of injuries. The problem is we'd be relying on injury cover on a player whose missed 1/3 of the last 2 seasons through injury and his most direct cover is for Grimes who is made of granite. We're too attack minded for both Grimes and Sheaf to work.

A little sad to see him go as he has been with us so long and has played his part in getting us to where we are now but that's what happens when you are looking to improve your 1st team and squad. He is moving to a club where he will become an integral part of the team.

Good luck for the future and thanks for the memories.
