its starting to get a bit tragic us keeping going in for silly bids for Hughes and getting turned down

I have to believe there’s something making us go back. Either the player/agent or Hull have indicated privately they’d be tempted by less than 20m.

If he wanted the move that bad he would be forcing it after the 1st maybe the 2nd. Going back with a third is a bit silly.

Wouldn't say that's necessarily the case.

We wouldn't continually put bids in for the mere sake of it.

To be honest it’s been silly since they lost there transfer appeal. No way they’re going to let him go when they can’t even spend the funds on an adequate replacement.

Sometimes finances dictate that you have to sell even if its really inconvenient. I don't believe we'll get Hughes but no harm in giving them something to think about imo.

Just seen Ipswich are buying Furlong from WBA. Definitely a stretch but he has played at CB before, maybe frees Woolf regardless of the CB they are buying ( This is nonsense but I’m bored)

Imagine having all that dirty PL cash and two of your back four are Dara O’Shea and Darnell Furlong. Bleugh.

Posters seem to forget why Hull were embargoed in the first place.

Their owner publicly admitted at the end of the season that they will likely need to sell first team players to ease the financial burden of their soaring wage bill, with him also encouraging external investment.

To sum up their issues this is from the Athletic:
  • Hull had future commitments of almost £22m to clubs for players signed under Ilicali at the end of May
  • A debt of close to £3m is owed to former owner Ehab Allam
  • Several clubs have been approached with a request to delay transfer payments
  • Some suppliers have been forced to pursue the club for outstanding money
Then they defaulted on payments to Man City / Aston Villa.

Apparently no club without parachute payments detailed transfer debts that high in their most recent accounting year.

Given the above, why would we go in with a huge bid when quite clearly their financial situation is something we can exploit and potentially benefit from re. by testing their resolve with Hughes and hope he pushes through a move.

With at least 2 bids in, Hull will know how keen we are. It makes sense from their point of view to hold out until Monday to see if there are any more bids from us or anyone else. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him leave Hull on Monday.

One day, after the window shuts, I'm going to go through this thread and list all the players mentioned that we never signed.

Got to be in 3 figures surely?

The biggest issue is they can't replace him.

They could in theory try to pursue the option of a loan to buy - but given their recent track record I think you'd do well to get a club to agree to that.

There will also be a hope that they could generate double what we've offered by next summer if he does well.

It doesn’t matter, if the player wants to come (which looks like he’s giving us encouragement) then things will happen, they will also need the money and they could be in league 1 next season where he’ll be worth 5 million. All we need to do is get close to the owners valuation and not the deluded managers
