Gotta weigh in on that last paragraph

The council let so many things slide with wasps. Safety Certificates being one, any non morally bankrupt council would have had that place shut down by 2018 as it was literally unsafe with things such as certain electrics etc in there.

The bailouts which were public were bad enough, but the cloak and dagger behaviour and covering up of things such as emails etc was as bad

And I know il probably get the 'oh its saddle bollocks again', if so fair enough. But as I said at the time wasps went tits, a good friend of mine worked for CCC for years, and he could not believe just what the council were doing for them, and letting them get away with, just to save face on their "city of rugby" cock up. They knew theyd nailed their colours to the wrong mast within 3 years and couldnt be seen to fail

This is why he contacted Gilbert and informed him of the meeting that had taken place in which it was discussed and almost agreed, to bailouts wasps out with Coventry Taxpayer money in November 2022. He had enough of it, and if it cost him his job so be it. That is why Gilbert spilled the beans, that is why everyone turned so quick, and that is why wasps failed when they did. Luckily he didnt lose his job as they couldnt prove it was him who tipped the press off, he has since left and the stories he has from the whole sorry debacle are enough to make skin crawl

Duggins, Lucas, Maton et al are absolute scum, who should be matched through the city and pelted with fruit

How Duggins is still Council leader makes my blood boil
Your mate set the wheels in motion for where we are now. Assuming he's a fan himself he should be extremely proud of that.

Definitely owe your mate a pint. Who knows where we’d be if wasps got that deal agreed

Right. So the council do in fact go above and beyond to support local sports teams and the idea they are all secret CCFC haters was nonsense as I said then? Good stuff.

So Wolfy and Godo for the two ins with Bassette leaving?
We also need to remember it’s a long time until Jan - it won’t all be like Saturday.

We’ve got 4 players unavailable already who would be starting / bench. We Absolutly need 2 more at minimum.

if we continue to press like we did yesterday, we are going to need fresh legs and rotation.

The Council were 100% willing to see the football club die to spite SISU. Absolute fact.

Partly, but also because they got giddy because a big Prem rugby club wanted to come to the city. They saw the money signs, they saw the promise of European rugby and wanted to make a name for the city. In some ways, they got what they expected in that first year. Many people were turning up in our city from outside.

I fully get it, but not at our expense and not at the expense of Cov Rugby. It was never once discussed with the tax paying residents of the city.

They didn't once consider how it would damage the football club.

Back in 2014-16 you would never believe what would later happen. I'm so happy to get to where we are.

IMO it was more about saving face on what was clearly at disastrous idea. I don’t think they’re all CCFC haters - but the wasps project going tits up coupled with personal vendettas (arguably deserved) against SISU meant they were entrenched. They weren’t against CCFC but our owners definitely shit on what project they envisioned for the city (city of rugby etc)

Do you think if Sisu never existed Wasps would ever have come? The council were faced with a hostile club that was refusing any serious negotiations and an asset eating millions a year which is a major part of the local economy and looked like disappearing. And major sports franchises needing a ground in a new area don’t come around every day. Frankly if they hadn’t taken Wasps up or even sought them out it would have been negligent as a local authority an as an asset holder with a fiduciary duty to tax payers. The wish on here seems to be they’d have just handed the freehold over when asked and anything short of that is proof of their evilness and how they say there twiddling their moustaches. Every single council member regardless of political affiliation voted for what happened because when you take your sky blue specs off and look at it rationally it was the only thing they could have done.

Setting up some stupid and frankly mostly politically motivated divide between the club and the council, forever is just stupid. The club will need to work with its local authority to maximise its potential just like any major enterprise. People are just going to have to accept that. They are very lucky that unlike most major enterprises most people they encounter will feel very warmly towards them and they’d have to be particularly stupid thundercunts to push past that good will and force people to put their actual job first.

You know as well as I do the council’s meddling started way before SISU. In fact they were massively involved in the process that led to SISU coming in.

If you look at the initial details they jumped in on the initial purchase agreement of the land, then shafted us with the rent from the beginning. No council has put more barriers up against their local football team than this one.

SISU were never going to be here forever and they made decisions that could have shafted us forever. Indeed they voted for Wasps to join - then bent over backwards to get them funding for anything they wanted, they even then tried to bail them out when it all went tits up. It was a private entity… why did they spend so much time and effort trying to finance a failing private business? It was because they had too much to lose - they’d see the football club die just to spite SISU, and let’s face it the CBS would be a costly white elephant if we’d have gone to pot alongside Wasps.
