Yup crazy nonsense.

like when Dawkins put the upturn in form to Kitch “putting some manners on Simms etc “. Wish he’d put some on Ballard in the last minute !

his goal scoring record outside of non league is shite

people think he's good because they saw him score against us, a where he looked like he was about to fall over 2 twice and the keeper should of saved

Strange how in most years the season ends and the glass is actually half empty. The profit is most likely in the players we want to keep. Nicking a few quid for BTA or Eccles barely counts.

In the Championship there was the width of Bobby Thomas's haircut between finishing 10-11th and finishing 5th. Our squad as it stands is safely in that bracket, and if it gets the rub of the green (Ogilvy mistimes his jump?) it gets in the play offs. But let's not kid ourselves.

There is a small pot so more emphasis should be placed elsewhere other than transfers. I want to see some of the things that are "free"

- Players with obvious potential being coached so that they kick on in the way Rudoni has - EMC, Simms, Thomas and maybe Tats . I've given up on Bassette. We need more of that.

- Greater tactical awareness from Frank. Less of the rigid 433 and subs at 70 mins. Other teams have worked us out - which is part of the Wright problem - they know what he does

How do you know there’s a small pot?

Absolute dreamworld would be 7 new starters. Clearly that’s not going to happen and that’s before you get to the question of Van Ewijk/Rudoni/Wright being sold.

Keeper will need to be sorted. I expect a loan.

Left back we could also do with sorting, albeit the resurgence of Dasilva in the last couple of months gives a bit more leeway in this.

My preference would be 2 new centre backs, but that won’t happen for a couple of reasons. We will be needing 1 at least. I like both Thomas and Kitching but neither are of the level where you’d say they could step up to the PL.

Centre mid needs 1 addition to come in alongside Grimes and Rudoni.

Striker is a must have. Need someone who is more suited to our style.

Ideally a winger/inside forward type for the right hand side. This I could accept a development player (probably a bit further along their development than Raphael).

You know that regular thread "Name the unpopular opinion you have about (enter subject e.g. your football team).

Well mine is that we need a real brute at the back - even harder than Kitching, who is pretty hard, a real shithouser. For those of a certain age who remember him, "six foot two and eyes of blue, big Jim Houlton is after you"

Someone like Sunderland's Onien would do just fine, shame he's 31.

Kitching would pull O'Niens arms off, Thomas would absolutely leather him too. Your opinion on what you want is fine but thats a minging example, he's just a tedious little WUM.

So was Sheaf last season. More pertinently, does he fit the profile for our team? Probably not because his passing stats are awful.

He’s 29 and the club needs to buy players to improve over time with resale value. He’s a good player but just not the right player for us.

O'Nien is about 5'10" and would give away loads of penalties with VAR. Ballatd is more the type we need.

He spoke well after the match and tbh played better than Kitch and Thomas both matches.

I don’t think he’s the answer but it’s not a terrible shout.

Yep I agree his passing is poor but a midfielder who mixes it up alongside Grimes and Rudi is not an awful idea. It’s about the blend.

If you don’t think he loves the dark arts you’ve not watched him play much. He’s fearless.

that said I don’t think he has the physical attributes we need …

It would gave been very difficult to overturn the 21 point gap between ourselves and Sheff U even with a good first quarter so even if we'd 'cruised' into the play off we'd more than likely still have ended up playing Sunderland, (maybe we could have finished above them, but would that have made that much difference, who knows?)

If we can find ish 5th or 6th again next year I'll be more than happy.

Ok I'd take Ballard. But please don't tell me that Thomas is hard (see comment above). He terrorizes nobody.

The litmus test is "who would you least like to bump into on a dark night?" Historically the answer was always Roy Kean or Neil Ruddock. That's the type we need - they get into the minds of strikers.

You need all of them to be technically proficient. Even if he’s a good player, does he materially make us better? Not particularly.

I’m not one of our in-house scouts who watch football all over Europe, but there will be players around who will fit what we’re looking for. Picking up 29+ year olds doesn’t serve you well in the long term.

The issue I’m more frustrated with is that we win the ball back well and control games well but there are times in the opposition 3rd where we do literally nothing of note.

There were a few instances where Sakamoto and EMC take on a man or 2 only to check back rather than crossing. Likewise, Rudoni had a great opportunity to get a shot off in the box and tried to overplay it.

We need to be more ruthless. I watched some of our highlights from last season (23/24) earlier on and the amount of goals we scored in unstructured play was great. This season has been more structured which is good, but a happy medium needs to be found imo.

It’s more than we’ve sort of bumbled our way in just over the line with other teams falling over themselves to avoid the playoffs rather than built a solid team that looks formidable even like early Sunderland. I’d like to see a sustained push and us putting more teams to the sword before I was confident of winning the POs, 5th and 6th rarely do well as they’re usually the best of the rest along with down to about 12th.

Definitely agree we need to fix the defence first. We concede bad goals very regularly. Defensively MVE and Dasilva are both very poor. That’s the priority for me. Along with a new keeper for Collins. On the wider recruitment front the championship is generally a terrible place to buy. You get average quality for large fees. So unless we pick up some frees I’d be looking elsewhere.

We went on our brilliant run when we had injuries and had to adapt to a more defensive game. I am not advocating a back 5 but our wing/full backs are always exposed with Frank's first choice wingers set up. MVE, JDS or Bidders always left isolated so this Granada chap (if true) needs to be really good.
Thomas and Kitch need to improve their passing from the back as they constantly put us on the back foot especially away from home. Hard to find a fast, tough, youngish footballing centre half we can afford but they must be out there.
Don't think Haji plays well up front. He is at his best when he picks the ball up has time to control it and set off. Difficult when teams do the two banks of four. He is a player who needs space and looks better against footballing teams.
Assuming we don't sell too many, a right sided defender or wing back to help MVE/Tatsu out is a priority.
