Half glass empty as always. Besides, my comment was made in response to Saddles’ statement ‘anyone we don’t want to lose will go’.

There’s a lot of profit in this squad.

A lot of opinions, but here's mine.

Simms should go, because we aren't playing how he wants. I like him though and think he will.scpre goals at this level, playing in a side that is a higher tempo and he is running in behind.

Wright I think has to go, he is desperate to play CF because its the only avenue to the USA squad. I think he is far better drifting in off the left though, which puts us and him in a weird position.

The pair of them are confidence players and both have looked short of it the last month.

In midfield, I'd move Sheaf on. He looks to play the same way as Grimes and I think Grimes is better at it. I can't see him wanting to drift in and out the team and I think he is very saleable.

I'd be inclined then to find a Torp/Hamer style replacement for Sheaf, someone who isn't afraid to play the ball through the lines and take a risk.

Binks can go, there's a player there but he makes mistakes and switches off. There'll be teams interested in him maybe at 500k.

Collins can get fucked, I'd pay him to go.

Allen has probably reached the end of the road as well, but I'd keep him if he's important behind the scenes.

I'd keep BTA, Eccles, Lati, Wilson and everyone else.

The LB situation is the issue still. Just signed Bidders a new contract, then the resurgence of JDS. Both seem important behind the scenes, but it's plainly obvious that we need an upgrade there. I'm not sure what we do.

Based on that, we need.

Cb x1
Lb x1
Rb x1
Cm x1
Rw x1
CF x1
Lw x1

Thats huge turnover and can't see it all.

So, I think realistically we will not see the CM change. I also think we might carry the LB problem forward....

Makes zero sense .
What is being suggested is that we didn't want to make another payment so didn't play one of our best strikers when the ultimate prize in the Premier League is worth close to 200 million these days

If this forum was in charge of recruitment, we’d be fucked.

Refer to posts about signing Morris/Moore over Simms when both had a worse non-penalty MPG and less headed goals than him.

Hardie and Morris for Wright and Simms… lol.

Like with half of the forum wanting us to basically sign a new team, we’ve got to 5th in the league all we need is a few extra quality players in and a couple of good loans. I’ll be glad the club doesn’t take advice from the ‘experts’ from the world famous forum that is skybluestalk

There’s a lot of grown toddlers in this forum!

We were a back pass away from another playoff final. Every neutral I’ve spoken to has said the same thing, over 90m we were the better team in both legs. Sunderland were only better than us in extra time and if a team was winning it before penalties, it was them unfortunately.

We’re a v good team in this division, since Lampard has come in, we’ve been the 4th best team in the division and soundly deserved to be in the playoffs.

That doesn’t mean things can’t be improved in terms of personnel or tactics, but Lampard and his team deserve credit where it’s due.

....or alternatively "we scraped into the play off places with a record low total of points and miles behind the 3rd place team with little expectation of winning at Wembley. The next level is to be clearly the best in the play offs or else it is a lottery longshot each year. As we saw" And shouldn't the aim to be in the automatics? For obvious reasons. We are miles off that.

We finished 5th and despite finishing on less points than 22/23, relied less on results going against us that season. We were in the driving seat from March onwards and the win over WBA all but confirmed we’d finish 6th at least.

Strange how in most years the season ends and the glass is actually half empty. The profit is most likely in the players we want to keep. Nicking a few quid for BTA or Eccles barely counts.

In the Championship there was the width of Bobby Thomas's haircut between finishing 10-11th and finishing 5th. Our squad as it stands is safely in that bracket, and if it gets the rub of the green (Ogilvy mistimes his jump?) it gets in the play offs. But let's not kid ourselves.

There is a small pot so more emphasis should be placed elsewhere other than transfers. I want to see some of the things that are "free"

- Players with obvious potential being coached so that they kick on in the way Rudoni has - EMC, Simms, Thomas and maybe Tats . I've given up on Bassette. We need more of that.

- Greater tactical awareness from Frank. Less of the rigid 433 and subs at 70 mins. Other teams have worked us out - which is part of the Wright problem - they know what he does

We’ve progressed year on year and have been the 4th best in the division since Lampard has come in. The reason it was close was because we started the season with a handicap. To remind you, we were closer to relegation than playoffs until Jan.

We weren’t good enough in 22/23 without Hamer and we weren’t good enough this year. Unless we’re signing a cheat code again we need better than both to get promoted.

He's out of contract & it is more of a squad game now & it is up to players to show they are worthy of a place in the starting XI. Whoever we sign may end up being a starter or a backup & if MVE leaves he may end up as 1st choice RB

I'm coming around to the idea now that if we strengthen at the back and bring in a top top keeper that will probably add 15 points to our tally atleast next season

The team has proven over the course of this season that it’s a Top 4-5 squad. We still need to be thinking of ways to improve the team because it’s not quite there yet. A few things to point out:

- 13 clean sheets in the league, 28.2% of games
- Joint 10th in team clean sheets
- 58 goals conceded; 13th in goals conceded
- xG of 53 for GA, conceded 5 goals more than actual
- 64 goal scored, joint 5th in goals scored
- xG of 70, 6 goals less than actual
- Most big chances missed in the league (84)

It’s clear that we need a better defence/defensive system. Likewise, we need to scoring more goals and taking our chances more efficiently. The latter point has improved under Lampard marginally.

There’s work to be done to improve the team with some quality additions. The team is not ‘complete’ yet.

I'd be shocked if we aren't sniffing around for Bundu. Out of contract, he can play all across the front (LW, ST, RW) so is ideal to switch in and out. Scored 10 when his expected goals were 5.58, meaning he can sniff out goals when there's no chances coming. Aside from Wright, our strikers are scoring less than their expected goals.

Be careful of statistical outliers. If he usually scores around his xG, and the next season he outperforms that… you have to be sceptical.

This time last year, people said the same thing about Sakamoto and he scored less goals in more games this season. To demonstrate:

- 2024/25 - 4 goals from 3.27 xG (42 matches)
- 2023/24 - 7 goals from 3.23 xG (29 matches)

I don’t know his game well enough, but I’d err on the side that he’s just had a good year and probably won’t replicate it this year.

100%. We were 4th best in the league since Lampard has come in but we still need to continually improve the squad.

We conceded more goals than we should have whilst scoring less than expected. That isn’t a good mix and we need to reverse these trends if we’re going to kick on next season.

Lampard will have his own plans for the squad so there will be lots of changes to come.
