Save ourselves a few quid in him and Andrews are getting to the level. Maybe Obikwu too?

Think Obikwu needs another season out on loan but at L1 at least

So "if " Andrews and Rapha are deemed ready to fill spots in the squad , what else do we need . Obviously most aren't overly enamored with Wilson filling in but if we are to sign another player it needs to be a centre back who can provide real competition for Thomas and Kitching

Its a complete nothing of a response that ignores the entirety of the rest of his career, the 2 seasons following that season included, the fact we looked to replace him straight after that season and the fact loads of shite players have finished in the top 6 over years which doesn't mean we should be hunting down all the worst ones like Pokemon cards. Maybe we should bring back Dabo as RB cover.

Can we have 1 years wages back off him then please. Being fit is the very least we should expect.

He wasn’t not fit last year, he had been playing in the Australian league which is non league standard.

was never going to be of a level last year. He’s clearly got ability, interesting one to watch.

Think it’s harder for Obikwu, he’s not going to be what we need ahead of Simms and Wright, probably best he does preseason then finds a loan to carry on his development as he was starting to perform in men’s football and that will be far more valuable than sitting on our bench.
You're likely right of course, although i prefer you say Wright and as yet unsigned 'other'. I'm fantasising about someone being stupid enough to buy Simms, its the time of year for dreaming.

Did we finish 5th because of him or even though he played some games?

We only made the playoffs because all the teams around us also got poor results.

Nothing wrong with wanting to enhance/improve the squad with better players in certain positions, no one’s saying Wilson is going to be starting for England anytime soon, but some of the comments in this thread are just keen to bash and write off Wilson and Collins.

Even if Wilson is as poor as people are making out there’s no way we replace him without.

1. There being adequate resources to do so.
2. A keeper moving on.
3. It being a position Lampard feels needs improving urgently.
4. There being an adequate replacement to come in, for next to nothing and be at a level to push us on immediately.

Wilson has been involved in two squads who made it to the playoffs, regardless of the defence in front of him the facts speak for themselves.

Dovin is our number one and if he’s going to be back as soon as October/November I would stick with Wilson until that time, unless there is a significant upgrade out there which I asked if anyone could name but someone get their panties in a twist over.

King as owner would be negligent if he allowed Lampard to sign keeper number 4. This is not about ability. It’s about the economics of it.

Negligence is starting the season with a very important position not adequately covered.

IF we attract no more interest in players and start the season as is. I think i'm ok with that

MVE played RW vs Wolves in the cup game didn't he and looked very effective? Maybe an option is KKH and MVE along the right? Would give us good balance in pace, but also defensive nous.

Collins will eventually be forced out the door either permanently or on loan with us covering a portion of his wages. Wilson i'd imagine is paid relative peanuts and is happy to stick about as a number 3. We will bring in a better standard number 2, either someone more experienced on a free or failing that a loan.

So we should be happy playing him as he had a couple of games where he didn't do his usual mistakes?

If we start with wobbly Wilson or calamity Collins it will cost us a lot of points.

Although some don't see it players futures at the club are determined by the things the coaches see or don't see in the 5 or 6 werks of pre season. Sometimes its not all about ability on the field as every single one of them have that, its attitude and behavior on and off.

Obikwu these coaches wouldn't of worked with a lot, so the evaluation will be done on him while away. Andrews, Rod, Norm were really under the microscope because the coaches had ideas of them and been around them previously. If Rod has grown up, if Norm has come in more positive amd Andrews has improved with age and experience, its great for the club. If they like Obikwu as a player he needs an extension and a loan to L1. The other 3 jave to push into 1st team squads

Certain others i think its time to move on Binks, Collins, and one of Allen or Eccles. Some need to move to create space for fresh bodies

Don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, but apparently Rapha has turned up to pre season a new man

Bulked up a bit, fitness levels now almost at the levels expected and is showing good signs on the training pitch.

He would basically be like a new signing if he can seriously compete with Tats

Would be ideal to have someone take him on loan to put him through his paces in first team football in the UK and next year be ready for us.

And then in this season we get Tyrique George in the mean time till he’s ready haha

We have started the last two seasons like Hans Moleman driving a house off the side of the road, now we're going for a different flavour by calling for one of two substandard keepers to play half the season in goal at a minimum.

I would prefer to assume that Dovin will be out for a long time and have two No 1 standard keepers available when he's back, than to assume he'll be back ahead of time then realise he won't be and we're playing Wilson till January

Wilson isn't a poor GK. If he could cut out the mistakes we wouldn't be having this conversation.

What's the definition of a poor goalie then if it isn't one that regularly fucks up

Every goalie fucks up though Hutch, I mentioned Beadle as a reference in the thread earlier. Fucked up in the Euro U21 and also last season at Hillsborough versus us, does that make him as bad as Wilson by your definition that he fucks up regularly?

No cors not , my reply was intended for lamps who stated he wasn't a bad goalie if he could cut out the mistakes

Wilson is not a good keeper, he's not as bad as some make out but he's not a good one.
He is in my humble a lot better than Collins but neither are anywhere near Dovin.
With Dovin out it is a worry we dont have top notch cover

No it doesn't but it's the perceived simplicity of bringing in another goalkeeper.
From memory I haven't seen one single link linking us with a goalkeeper

Feels like the only way we sign someone to improve the first XI is if MVE and Vik move this window. I get Brau might, but that's not a given. Been spoiled for a few windows where we added someone of that standard, often a few in one window.
