I'm sure its Lampards idea, someone of that stature wouldn't get cucked by a Championship striker. It's just whether it was his idea because he likes Wright there, or whether it was his idea because Simms and BTA don't really do anything for him, which you couldn't blame him for.
Let’s face it Wright is better off the left, we know that, but he should be able to do a good job up front, pretty sure he played his whole career there before we moved him.

I agree based on the eye test, I think the stats are a little closer, I just worry Lampard wants a very specific type of wide forward (one who can cross) and that’s not the type Wright wants to be, but he’s by far the best finisher we have and has the build to play that role so frustrating to not be able to fit him in.

This seems to be a common thread this summer. We came fifth so no need for any improvements. I doubt Lampard or King see it that way.

No one is saying we don’t need some improvements but your drivel about Kitching is nonsense

People using Leeds as the barometer are going to be really disappointed.

Last I checked in this thread the team being used was Hull.

It could be a very interesting season for Wright in that, if we do bring in a 'marquee' CF i'm not sure he's a nailed on starter every week, given that imo a least, Lampard prefers EMC on the left. I'm sure he'd still play loads and we'd shuffle the pack up front to keep everyone fresh but if we're in a position where a player as good as Wright isn't completely nailed on to start whenever he's even remotely fit then we really are cooking something.

Rhat post is comparing our attack positively to Leeds with a fact, they are one of only three teams to out score us. You said anyone comparing us would be disappointed but they’re not because that’s a fact, they were.

The negative fact was that we conceded more than Hull. The hope is we can do better than Hull, no such hope is expressed with Leeds. HTH.

OK?

The argument seems to be that because we made an FA Cup semi-final two years ago there’s no need to upgrade the squad, even in its weakest areas. Bring back Kasey Palmer imo.

Centre half isn't anywhere close to its weakest area though is it?

I’d like the detractors to give me their ‘expert’ opinion on why when Kitching was in the team, we leaked roughly 0.97 goals per game. When he didn’t play, that figure jumped to 1.58.

I’d say LB and CB are the two weakest areas for me. The midfield is strong and we score goals for fun.

Well our central striker has not scored goals for fun. That, LB and goalkeeper are the weakest areas.

The goal conceded stats are hugely skewed by Collins Lati and Binks playing loads of games and our LB options not being of sufficient quality.

With Dovin injured the priority is to replace him.

As Brau seems like a development player second would be a starting LB

only after that should we be looking at upgrading the reserve CBs.

All this talk of Hull is interesting as we were still top half for goals conceded. Take away 10 for GK errors and we’re 7th in the league.

Partly because his initial return came when we played 5ATB. When we went to a back 4 again we conceded 1.2 goals a game.

Frank likes his teams to play with a high press. That's great and scores goals but also leaves the back vulnerable and leaks goals if the personnel at the back aren't up to the task. He's clearly working on that and recruiting to put it right given who has come in so far and I'm sure he has nowhere near finished yet. Watch this space...

Bobby Thomas:
Duel success: ~58%
Aerials: Wins about 62% — good but not enough to dominate big Championship strikers.

Liam Kitching:
Duel success: ~68%, big difference!
Aerials: Wins about 71%, much stronger in aerial battles, so crosses and long balls are dealt with more confidently.

Sakamoto, Bassette, BTA, EMC ad Simms all have poor goal returns of >1/4. We can't depend on Rudoni.

We underperformed our xG by 13.5 goals, second most in the division, it is absolutely an area to improve on. Whether that means new signings or lots of work with the players we've got.

Who cares if the central striker doesn’t score? It’s the goals that we concede that are the problem.

This is getting dangerously close to “Let’s win every game 5-4 territory” - I would sooner spend on upgrading at every defensive position this season before we think about signing another striker.

The entire defence last season didn't perform as a collective well enough to be honest. Some were inevitably worse than others but none particularly shone themselves in a great light.

MVE for instance was a serial offender but people weirdly don't seem to want to have that conversation.

We massively underperformed our xG last year. I'm pretty shocked you cannot see our need for quality finishers.

If we’re taking the opposite argument to the absurd extremes you are then we’re talking about finishing every game 0-0 unless Rudi can perform some magic.

In reality all areas of the pitch are open to improvement at any point.

I just don’t think the priority is our two very good centre halfs.

Our big problem is still getting caught "in the transition" and new centre backs do not solve that particularly.
