We are already way ahead for scoring headers even without those players. The issue isn’t scoring goals full stop, it’s at the back and in breaking down teams who sit in and counter.

Keiffer Moore at 32/33 isn’t going to be high up the shortlist.

There’s £15-16 million invested in strikers so the challenge for Lampard is getting the most out of them and any signings would be subject to outgoings.

Torp has been a big miss in the games that the opposition plays the low block because he’s the only credible long range shooting threat we have.

It’s also fair to say that the output from our wingers needs to be much higher in terms of ‘successful dribbles/take-one’ as well as goal contributions/xG & xA.

First and foremost is fixing the defensive issues because as we all know, we gift wrapped too many goals this season.

It’s also about relieving pressure when we’re under it though which Simms entirely fails to do.

I agree we need to upgrade on him. I haven’t lost faith that Bassette will come good, but can’t rely on him for another full season at least.

A brick shithouse still needs some ability with his feet given how we play though.

I just want someone I can throw on when we’re 1-0 up away so when we’re lumping balls out of defence they don’t just come straight back. Ideally we get Vik mk2, but I’d accept Clive Platt V1.1 right now.

Fair. For me the bigger priority is cutting out the howlers at the back, so a reliable keeper and upgrades at centre back are where I’d aim the funds first.

Upgrading on Simms and BTA next highest priority

I’m willing to take pelters for this opinion, but I believe Simms will come good under Lampard.

Looking at some of his goals last season, we need to put the ball into space for not just him but all our strikers. There’s also a credible long range threat that’s been present in his professional career as a whole.

As a team, in wide areas we typically need to put the ball in a bit earlier because in a formation with 1 striker, they get doubled too easily. Rudoni’s headed goals follow a similar pattern, the opposition CBs are marking the striker and Rudoni arrives late. From a team POV, that’s fine but the strikers (all of them) are being a bit neglected imo.

To get Simms to come good he needs fire in his belly. Aside from at Hillsborough this season I can’t remember him showing that aggression which gets him using his strength and pace

I just don’t see how you can make it to his age and be so unnatural around a football for any coaching to make a difference. He’s a lovely lad and I wish him the best but he’s just not got the attributes we need in that position for me. As you say he’s at his best running onto balls in the channels where he can use his power and pace for once. But the rest of his game is so poor is creates pressures elsewhere if we aren’t dominating IMO.

I'll be amazed if Lampard hasn't got a replacement lined up, or at least asked the recruitment team to start looking into it.

I think Simms has had a bit of a rough time this season. Seemingly very start stop in the team which won’t help his development.

I get annoyed by him as he had all the traits to do well in this system but he needs some fire in his belly. And he needs to improve his hold up play. Think he’s a player who’d benefit from someone with experience coming up and almost showing him how it’s done per say.

As others have said I wish someone would lay into him just to draw that aggression as when he’s on it, he’s been good for us.

Not sure Cartlon Morris will entertain a move to us, after the away end at Luton were calling him a wanker on several occasions.

What an enigma Ellis is, shrugs shoulders.

I can't believe these lists which show 10 or so players going, I still think turnover will be relatively restrained and we will marginally increase squad size.

The intention is play Haji upfront as far as I can tell. We were after wingers in Jan which indicates that’s the recruitment priority.

It’s a shame we haven’t really got to see EMC and Wright play too often together.

While he’s not on anywhere near as much as the website makes out, the devil is in the detail for me on Binks. Depends how much he is on and where in the wage structure he is.

If he’s on around £15,000 weekly that’s a lot for a squad player which could of been used elsewhere
What’s the evidence he’s on £15k a week?

Considering the obscene market value we set ourselves for English LCBs when we paid £4.5m for Kitching, Binks at £1.5m doesn’t seem like terrible value to me. And I say that as someone who doesn’t really rate him much at all.

A lot of rumors come off a site that states he was “confirmed” to be on £30,000 at Bolongia.

It’s a nonsense but with others saying he earns more than a few, I was saying the devil is in the details of his wages.

I think people forget what sort of turnover is normal for a new manager TBH. Coming up through the leagues we’d regularly signs 10+ players in a close season, we signed 7 last summer, 11 the summer before, 7 in 21/22, 11 in 20/21, 13 in 19/20, 14 in 18/19…

22/23 when we sold Hyam to save the pitch is the outlier when we only signed 4. Why people are losing their shit at the idea a new manager might bring 8 or 9 in is beyond me.

Think it’s clear we need a bigger and better summer window this time round. Of the players we signed last summer, only one would be considered a likely starter for the opening day of next season, and the rest will count themselves lucky to feature here at all.

Yeah, and I’m fairly confident FL wouldn’t be here if he hadn’t had some guarantees that he’d be able to bring his ‘own’ players in.
How many has he actually signed? One?

Weren’t we close to maxing the loan limit in each of seasons? The contract length of the team was also shorter in the L1 and L2 days too, around 2 years average.

The squad is fully contracted to 2027 and in terms of total headcount, we probably only need 3-5 players. Any additional signings from that point would be subject to a 1 in, 1 out basis.

The only absolute ‘needs’ we have is 1 or 2 wingers, RB and possibly a CM if we let Allen go and Andrews deemed insufficient for cover. Any other signings would be subject to outgoings. For example, signing Brau means we would have 3 first team LBs which is overkill so someone will presumably be moved on.

Without outgoings in midfield, think we’d only really need the following in the window?

Assuming Collins, Bidwell, one of the back up CB leave, and one of the ST (if wright would need a ST with back up Lw unless pato stays?)

GK (Loan or experienced back up)
Back up RB (loan?)
Experienced CB
Starting LB
Starting/Back up RW
Starting ST

No club will loan a player to be utilised as a back up

Some of the wage rumours being thrown around our fanbase of what our players are on are nonsense. People saying the likes of Binks and Simms are our top earners are untrue. They're not even in our top 4 earners.
O'hare is a good example as he's left so don't mind discussing, he was on 8k pw here. That will sound ludicrous to some as it's nowhere near the figures that were being put about on social media.

From what i understand at the moment

Collins
Binks
Bidwell
Allen
Sheaf (but for some reason hes brought a new house in Stratford and joined the golf club so dunno if that's now changed)
Simms
BTA

Are the ones to be shifted on

Sounds about right to me.

I will be sorry to see Sheaf go but isn’t his contract up next year? If so, it makes sense.

I also like Allen as a squad player. He always gives his all and offers us something a bit different.

I would be happy to keep Binks, although I think he has been been better at LB than CB on the rare occasions he has played there.
