Didn’t we also bid over another team to sign him?

Would imply interest although bet they’d be plenty for both of them

He was on his way to Hull for a medical, I think.

If we really want a starting number 9 its a question of who is going to be better off the bench. For me thats BTA everytime.
Makes a bigger impact and is definitely my preferred against tired legs or a team chasing the game as they’ll think twice about pushing too many up with BTA’s pace and ability to exploit gaps and space

Unpopular opinion, im happy to have both. Of course if a decent enough offer came in they could go.

I don’t think many number 9’s have done all that well in the championship recently. The top 4 didn’t really have a prolific one and the best was probably Sargent who is hardly Mitrovic. Could easily see Simms going somewhere and scoring

Yep true I could see that with Simms

My issue with both BTA and Simms is when they’re both on form they can be unplayable. When they’re not they are anonymous and dreadful. There’s no in between with either. I watched all of Simms goals from last season and quite a few headers in there. That shows he can be an effective target man. With the amount of crosses we put in he should be lethal in the box.

Seen BTA play for WBA and us. Never seen him be unplayable.
If we can move him on to support other signings I would not be against that.

BTA lovely guy, run all day, plays with his head down, scorer of good goals not a good goal scorer.

not my view but that of one of his team mates …. I’ll leave it at that …

Whoever suggested Lucas Ribeiro as a signing a few weeks ago, what a shout. Played great against Dortmund in the Club World Cup today.

I said on a podcast the other day that the "number 9" is going out of fashion. Certainly in the Prem. It disappeared along with the likes of Drogba and Lukaku. (Which is why I don't think vik would suit the prem) most strikers now are basically number 10s who can push forward. Even Man City who brought in Marmoush when they have a brilliant "9" Modern game is all about wingers it seems

Viks not a number 9 though is he. He loves to move into the wide channels a grift in. He's got plenty to his game

It's more that he needs to be the focal point of a team which no top 4 prem team really needs. He would be better suited to Italy in my opinion

Rumours saying we are in for David Brooks from Bournemouth. I think it's unrealistic as would cost £10m and lots of other clubs would be chasing him.

there was an article in the week that suggested a number of championship clubs wanted Brooks with West Brom being favs. I don’t recall that we were one of them. It read like the kind of article agents place to get interest in their client.

Not all rumours are from the press.

I once picked up on one re Swift purely through knowing one of his mates.

We’re not saying he’s Pele. Just better than Simms. Clinching goal v Boro he certainly wasn’t playing with his head down. In fact all of the things in that goal are things Simms could never do.

Eiran Cashin

Not in the know at all but hearing persistently that someone’s heard from someone that Bobby Thomas may be off.

Anyway, Eiran Cashin; remember his name being mentioned when we were looking at lots of Derby youth.

Seemingly available on season long loan from Brighton after a big money move there resulted in no breakthrough into the prem.

I suspect this link is the usual tosh tho…

Even if he’s joining and wouldn’t shock me as he would suit how Lampard wants to play.

He’s left footed. Meaning he would take Kitchings role in the starting line up
