Ashley Phillips has turned into a really good centre half, probably never make the grade at spurs, wonder if they would let him go permanently?

I had a mad brain fart then & thought you meant Aaron Phillips

He is one we are trying for now and have been for a couple of weeks, alongside Onyeka and Hamer

But yea considering its not happening now, the name I was told was Eric Martel, midfielder from Cologne. Out of contract in the summer and we were keen on a deal in which his wage would massively increase upon/if promotion (few of our players have that clause btw)

Evidently hes been incredible for Cologne this season and much bigger fish are now in the pond so Cologne have basically said you can go but Coventry arent offering the money we can get for you

Im sure there are some Bundesliga boffs on here but his stats seem alright
Just trying to get my head around this. So we tried for Reed but it looks like he’s staying at Fulham?
We tried for Onyeka but other clubs are also in for him?
We tried for Martel but they want too much money for him?
we tried for Hamer but he’s not fussed about the move?
Do you reckon we’ll get one in? If so, you reckon it’ll be someone different to them 4? Cheers.

Am I reading too much into this or is that Will suggesting Doug is trying to bring Hamer back?

I don’t think they are. I think Lampard has done an excellent job of punching above the weight of his squad.
I have to disagree. We started with a team and squad that knew their role and the way we play. We didn't need the first 10 games to get organised. I also think we have the best combination of manager and backroom staff guiding us. Once Thomas is back (with no more injuries) we are back to full strength for the first time since September. Add to this the signing of Esse.

I know it is a bit premature but if we win on Monday I can't see us finishing out of the top 2. Yes nearly anyone can beat anyone but that's the same for everyone. Our hardest remaining game is against a side that can't cope with our attacking style and we're at home to them. Keep the home run going and we're nearly there.

A CM is very much on the shopping list and has been all window. Why do you think the links to the likes of Neil, Hamer and Onyeka have been about?

Let's hope we manage to get it over the line because if we dont strengthen and we miss out Doug will need to answer to it

Austin before Doug but yes….

There is plenty going on. Regardless of Edwards comments and people just making conclusion.

Such hard window. The players are so tight and focussed and if we we don’t sign anyone else , then so be it - still got faith.

Monday now huge chance to show what about.

So many things could go wrong while trying to sign a player with deadlines in place The longer you leave it or deals that don't move along the more chance you have of standing scratching your nuts wondering what is gone on..

I hope Doug had a few things going on and is now closing on at least 1. We have a good squad but that extra quality help will make things easier. He doesn't want to be left wondering about what ifs, that's for sure .

No no no. Clubs have always been totally transparent and obvious about their transfer goings on, what you on about.

I agree. But to me we've made the best signing this window so far with Esse. Before his signing we had a very good 1st team and squad. We're nearly back at full strength with a side that took the p1ss for the 1st half of the season.

We're in a much better position than some people on here would like you to believe. Nearly half a point per remaining game above Ipswich and Middlesborough are not as good as their results suggest.

I think the fact we blew the budget in two reserve players who have hardly played gives the opposite impression tbh. Yes money has been spent but it’s not much compared to what came in and what we brought with it has been a bit of a waste if we’re honest.

In terms of first team players we’ve basically sold Sheaf for £6m a bought Grimes for £3.5m since he arrived. The fact he’s got us where he is reflects well on him not the ownership IMO.
I think it is difficult to get better players than our first choice eleven without spending big bucks.
You are right, outside of our loans, the reserves we have bought have been really disappointing. KKH has been unlucky, he picked up an ankle injury at Millwall in the league cup and that seems to keep reoccurring. Wolfie has not been up to standard so far and Brau appears to have a long way to go to reach Championship standard. They may all come good but we need them firing now.

Tbh I thought we would have made a statement signing by now. Not saying the loans we have got in are bad signings as we defo needed depth, just saying this is the biggest opportunity to achieve prem football since 2001 and that hasn’t really been reflected in terms of the transfer activity.

DK is tight is fuck.

He’s only spent 7.5million on player sales this season and bought a stadium

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He raised over £10m in transfer fees and mortgaged the stadium he didn’t buy it cash.

This can be the classic problem trying to buy a player of the standard we now require that is going to be in demand from other clubs in our division and abroad.
We have a narrow set of parameters now. No good buying potential that may come to fruition in a couple of years. We need an experienced professional reasonably priced to get us over the line or someone who is lower Prem ready, which will cost.
When we go for someone with our limited budget compared to the parachute clubs and the Hollywood two, agents and selling clubs are going to tout their player around to get the best deal, (see Stamenic). They insist on waiting to see if they can get a better deal elsewhere. That is why many deals go to the wire or fail at the last minute.
Even then, nothing is guaranteed that a top player will hit the ground running. Browne was brilliant at Preston and I gather we were gazumped. He has been pants since then, until recently, when he has unfortunately found his form.

It would be interesting to know how much we have to spend, and whether we'd be prepared to spunk the lot on one target.

We’re not signing the players some teams are because of wages, hamer would want too much, it’s why he left ?
That makes no sense, in 4 months time we can pay premier league wages 🙏
So he comes here on 30k a week (for eg) and a hefty bonus for achieving promotion.
Then hes on premier league money next season.

Same offer for anyone we bring in now, which would explain why we are reportedly showing an interest in Frank Onyeka who is on higher wages than Hamer.

Buying the stadium outright would just be a waste of money no? Long term it costs more but short term it gives you more flexibility. Probably able to write off a load of tax via a mortgage too.

No he bought the stadium, because he negotiated the deal. Buying it via a mortgage is common sense for the club. It’s like any transfer in football, the finances are spread over a number of years not paid for up front.
