2024/25 League 1 Champs?

Esse was deffo number 1 target i know that for certain, Korean bloke i wasnt told anything

Dont wanna get everyone pulling their pudding here btw but Callum Wilson IS possible. Wages are the issue even with his contract being cancelled so it probably wont happen. However his West Ham contract was heavily incentivised with appearances and goals. His actual basic is a lot lower than people would imagine, but still almost double our highest earner, however..........

Evidently he is very tempted to come back and be the Cov Kid that leads his boyhood club back to the Premier League Roy of the Rovers style (even though hes not keen on certain people and influences he had in the city previously). He has a lot of respect for Lampard for obvious reasons and would happily work under him. If there is something that can maybe be done which says his wage quadruples on promotion then you never know......

I have heard similar but don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up!

he had said he would love his last season or two to be back at city, but he does have issues with people and relationships here.

also @Saddlebrains I think you’re slightly out on the basic figure, my understanding is it’s a lot lower than most of our first team are on, but very very heavily incentivised on appearances and goals… so there would be room for a deal if we were happy to pay a huge bonus on promotion, but the balance is how much influence he would have had / will have going forwards for the rest of the season as it will put others out if he comes in, does the square route of fuck all then gets a handsome pay out if we go up

Youre probably right, he more than likely wont

But I feel its positive that we've at least enquired, and hes not ruled it out yet. Probably a case of his heart wanting it, but then if he gets 15k a week here but 50k a week at Celtic or someone then that heart over head matter will change very quickly 😂
Do you know for sure we've enquired?

Would be quite the statement to sign 3 quality forwards when we're already the leagues top scorers.

Either way, I can't see Wilson signing.. he'll have much better teams in better divisions looking at him and will be able to offer a lot more than we can.

Must be something to it then as we've been told virtually the same info..... 👀👀

We have 100% had a couple of conversations with him the last few days, and he has been reciprocal

It may well mean fuck all, but it seems to me its a classic case of heart vs head for him. As i said above, coming back and firing us to the premier league after he left us ground sharing and on the bones of our arse after growing up in our academy, attending President Kennedy school, being a cov fan, is very tempting for him.

But he also needs to look at whats best financially for him and his now limited future

It’s now or never for Wilson returning back to Cov. Both his career and our trajectory as a club are at crossroads and right now is as perfect a time for both parties to get a deal done.

Personally, I don’t see it happening but one can dream.

It’s a perfect narrative, ‘the return of the prodigal son’.

That said, he has one big contract left at a push. I’m not sure there will be many takers given his last last deal at West Ham didn’t work out.

It’s risky, if he joins us on a short term deal and he smashes it, he gets a more lucrative offer from the Prem (us) or abroad. On the flip side, if it goes badly like Deeney at Birmingham, his career is effectively over.

If he comes here and smashes it say scores 6-10 goals and stays fit. Then he defibately hets another contract at high end championship. And maybe a back up striker in prem for us. All conjecture

Wilson is a much better player than Deeney ever was to be fair, but I really don’t know if his injury problems lend themselves to the Championship and how we want to play.

He would be a massive lift for the players and fans. No brainer.
I’m sceptical even if we pulled off signing Wilson to be honest.

I’d love to find out if it works out because he’s obviously too good for the Championship quality wise. It’s his durability that’s been a problem his whole career unfortunately because he could’ve right up there amongst the best in the league imo.

We’d probably manage his minutes v carefully.

Idk, I seem to remember the whole league thinking Deeney signing was a massive coup for Birmingham and he was dire.

If there’s a position we could manage his workload, it’s upfront. We’ve got Haji, Simms and BTA already so it’s like Wilson needs to be play 90m 2-3 times a week.

If we sign Wilson, my assumption (probably incorrect) is that we’ll sell Haji.

That would be such a Doug move.

Selling Haji, pocketing £15m and getting Wilson on a pay as you play

If we did something like that and he broke down again we’d be in the shit. The heart is probably telling club and player to do it, but head is also telling both it probably isn’t worth it.

Nothing to see here.
Based purely on emotion nothing else, and not a good look for Doug having passed on Bamford around two months ago ?
A signal possibly that the owner is trying to get out or trying to force the managers hand?
