We might go back in for that young CB from Bodo. It's not the signing we need for the occasion really and i'd hope we'd get others but we tend to track players for a while and if we believe in the potential we might try and get it done. Their domestic season will be over then too i think.
Probably a position that relies on us offloading Latibeaudiere.

or we could just have two left backs

I still think Brau is a project worth persuing. It's about picking up players before they come into there own. We have done it with Hamer, Rudoni, Sheaf, Torp, Van Ewijk, Gyokeres and possibly Dovin.

Several players can play in more than one position including Brau which Frank seems to like and appreciate. It's just certain fans who are stuck with this one player has one best position and shouldn't be played anywhere else notion.

I don't expect Brau to come into his own until the end of the season or maybe even next. It's what building for the future is about. Very few players, even fully developed players hit the ground running with a new team.

I really don't see the problem you keep snipping about. Sometimes you have to pick players up when you can like Bassette. Not all are a success. It's not just about skill it's about character and integration which can take time.

Valid points but it does seem weird that since the Birmingham game he just hasn't featured at all.

Undoubtedly there's going to be a settling in period for Brau which will take as long as it takes until he's deemed ready but is slightly strange he's not being integrated in when games are practically over.

Sheff W for instance was the perfect time to bring him on and instead Bidwell was the preferred option when Dasilva went off.

tbf is there not a chance that Eccles under Lampard and alongside Grimes could develop into a capable player in that role? Makes more sense to me than trying to find a future Grimes in Jan. Feel like we've more need of someone who can be a bit Torp or a bit Rudoni for here and now.

Grimes looks like he's at his peak because what he does is all about intelligence and composure. He's 30ish so in the position he plays where he doesn't need explosive pace or power, less wear and tear and a later peak. Eccles still has time on his side if he wants to improve as a 6 or 8.

Grimes is a unique player and I just don't see a similar player out there that we could bring in as cover for him, that would be willing to do so with the prospect of very little playing time.
Yeah if grimes did get injured (fingers crossed he won’t) I think we’d have to accept we’re not going to be able to have a like for like replacement, and adjust accordingly.

The Blackburn game is why I wanted a Rudoni backup, they managed to nullify us quite well with the high press. We needed someone able to drop in and give us an out ball, haven’t really got another midfielder like that.

Someone who is short and nippy, not necessarily in the Rudoni mould would suit us as an alternative option.

Rak-Sakyi's had a strange start in Turkey. Played 3 games, scored 3 goals. Then benched and not featured, then not in squad at all. Clearly got Cov on his mind instead of some Turkish bums.
His club been told he's being recalled in Jan to join us so leaving him out...?

Thing is at the moment technically Brau can't play any of the positions, or at least not well enough to be considered. At either LB or LM/LW he is positionally all over the place.

Not to say he won't be and it will come with time, but I can see why FL isn't bringing him on. Lots of work need on the training pitch with him first I think.

The strikers are sorted. The options are there to change the profile or go 2 upfront. To sound like a broken record, the flexibility options for the players behind the forwards are seriously lacking.

If Plan A doesn't work, we actually don't look being able to change games. From my POV, Hull, Oxford, Leicester and Blackburn looked like they were going the same way. The only exception being Blackburn where we scored 2 ranged efforts which is not the most reliable tactic (as people have said about Leicester in other threads).

Id be very happy with Rak-Sakyi, Pereira and Nielsen.

The first is on loan and doesn't look in Place's plans, the second two are at clubs whose seasons are over so would be the perfect time to raid.

Rak-Sakyi solves our lack of bodies out wide, Pereira can play in the 8 or the 10 and Nielsen would be the perfect developmental 4th choice CB. All players who have previously been linked and wouldn't cost the earth.

Move Lati and Bidwell on and you've got your 25 man squad.

We could bring all 3 in and not lose anyone. 24 man squad at the moment, including Bell and Andrews. Count them as U21's in January

that would be a fantastic window and a real show of intent. if we were to buy all 3 it’s at least 10m though

If we are are still in the top 2 come Jan it will be a hard time to buy players as we will need Prem quality. No point in buying Championship standard players if your going to be Premier League 6 months later. Might have to be loan signings unless Doug finds a pot of gold down the back of his sofa.

Disagree with this, sign whatever it takes to get over the line.

If you have a few players you need to move on after the promotion then so be it. I'm sure it's no problem to shift a player who has just achieved a promotion.

Once you have £200m in the back pocket then you can build a PL squad.

i honestly don’t think we need anyone
We don't need anyone presently. Those saying we do are those saying our reserve players are not good enough although everyone that's come into the team has done a good job. The international breaks have also been good for us.

But winter is nearly with us. Poor quality pitches and games more frequent than now. We have arguably the best squad in the Championship and for the reason of getting rid of the players not good enough/wouldn't get much game time. Then we went for quality and not numbers. It's the same for the January transfer window. We either bring in quality players for specific roles or we continue as we are.

I wouldn't be surprised if we brought in a Prem loan or two. There's a lot of players not getting game time and if you're going to look at loaning players to the Championship you would want your players to go to a side where they will learn the most. There's a club that's flying with a manager that knows what he's doing. A manager that's improved his players with the help of his backroom staff. You would think they would be the choice destination for the loan players.

We have 2 very good players in Woolfenden and KKH that have hardly played. Our players are playing well and those in reserve need to earn their place even if they're clearly good enough.

We have players that need game time to keep their sharpness up. Players like Bidwell who already know the system we play and how his team mates play will be preferred to a player with a lot to learn. Brau will get his chance when the time is right.

Clubs may not loan players to us as they are likely to be on the subs bench. A wide player would be nice but I don't think we need to much else in the next window.

If?

5 points and a GD of +23 above 3rd place Millwall. Even further ahead of the rest. Yes we will drop points but so will everyone else.

But I agree with the rest. Since Lampard took over we have only brought in quality that have the chance of being in a lower Prem side other than Brau and he has the chance to improve.

If they're good enough they will play although I agree with what you say.

The choice for the loaning side is let the player go to a side playing great attacking football with a winning mentality or a lower down side where they will be 1st choice but not learn as much.

You say Brau will get the chance when the time is right.... we were 3-0 up when Bidwell was subbed on vs Sheff W. Not really sure what better time there was to get minutes to be honest.

Fair enough at the tail end of games such as Portsmouth where really we need to try and see the game out. Bidwell's experience is useful in those instances.

There's clearly a lot more work to do with Brau than perhaps initially thought.

When Lampard thinks the time is ready he will play.

Who thought Brau would be straight in the side? Even players used to the speed of the Championship normally take time to settle in. Look at the difference this season of a squad that understand the system we play and how each other play.

I can only think of Grimes that slotted straight in and was good from the start and we've signed a lot of players in recent years. We have Woolfenden and KKH that would walk into most sides having to wait for their chance and they're a lot more ready than Brau.
