Silly question with his defence numbers could this reflect him in part playing on the left wing and not in the centre of the pitch? That was 3-5 seasons ago, he’s a different player and all you have to do is look at his output. Defensively, his numbers are declining so I have my
Stylistically, we’re a very different team to the 22/23 outfit. We packed the box with 3 CBs and 2 AMs ahead of the CMs a lot of the time.
Hamer is one of the players in the league when he’s in form, imo it doesn’t seem like a good fit for us unless we’re planning to change tactics.
Wasn't a stamina issue for us; he got injured. Though I don't think this changes what you're saying. The fitness issues are real. He was unable to complete 90 mins in two Wembley play off finals and - arguably - both incidents resulted in his team losing the final. Since the start of this season his physical appearance has seemed less athletic and clubs will know all about his rumoured refuelling habits.
He’s been playing mostly out wide for Sheff Utd (a ridiculous decision btw) so of course his defensive numbers won’t be the same. Doesn’t mean he’s lost the ability to do it.That was 3-5 seasons ago, he’s a different player and all you have to do is look at his output. Defensively, his numbers are declining so I have my

No-one doubts his ability; the question is does he have the stamina to do it?He’s been playing mostly out wide for Sheff Utd (a ridiculous decision btw) so of course his defensive numbers won’t be the same. Doesn’t mean he’s lost the ability to do it.
I like Burrows personally. Especially if you like your fullbacks to get forward, which we do.Thought I’d have a look on Sheffields forums to see if there was rumours on there.
Only find I could find was someone saying a championship big hitter was looking at £12 million for Hamer and Burrows. Probably absolute shite but fun to think about
Saddle claims Doug is keen as it would be seen as a coup.I can't see Doug King allowing Hamer back into the club. Personally I would be chuffed if a fit Gus returned.
I don’t mind burrows but worry about his defensive numbers. Much better as a wingback than a fullback imoI like Burrows personally. Especially if you like your fullbacks to get forward, which we do.
In fairness, he got injured in our playoff final but the rest of this is valid.Because good tho he was in a pisspoor team, he wasn’t good enough to make the difference and keep them up.
The following year Ipswich gambled on loaning Kalvin Phillips rather than signing Hamer.
His subsequent performance in the championship only served to reinforce the point that the best player of the division wasn’t enough to get his team promoted.

It's benchmarked against other AMs and his numbers are way behind Rudoni's with the exception of interceptions. Him playing further forward is a symptom rather than a cause of his defensive output that's behind most CMs.Silly question with his defence numbers could this reflect him in part playing on the left wing and not in the centre of the pitch?
Clearly unfit as well but that seems to be the case for the entire United squad
Hamer's defensive numbers are behind Rudoni, Eccles, Torp, Grimes and Allen. If we sign him, he won't be playing CM and those numbers aren't because he's playing LW, looking back at his historical data does not corroborate your point at all. He’s been playing mostly out wide for Sheff Utd (a ridiculous decision btw) so of course his defensive numbers won’t be the same. Doesn’t mean he’s lost the ability to do it.
He doesn't start regularly for Sheffield United anymore, does he?I like Burrows personally. Especially if you like your fullbacks to get forward, which we do.
Last season Sheff Utd would’ve been reluctant to sell and he had plenty to run on his contract.
This season he’s out of favour and has questions over fitness.
Ok I missed that from Saddle.Saddle claims Doug is keen as it would be seen as a coup.
I think Doug would love the optics of us buying him back at a steep discount on our selling price while top of the league while they’re 17th. Basically the ultimate validation of his decision making over the last 2 seasons.
What are these defensive numbers thenIn fairness, he got injured in our playoff final but the rest of this is valid.
He's a great Championship player but if we're actually serious about staying up, he probably isn't going to be a starter. I do think a lot of posters on here have a hyper-idealised view of him as a player because he was great for us. He did well in the Prem, but there's a reason Prem teams passed on him and the rumours of his off the field shenanigans have persisted.

Posters have been expressing concern of how 'open we've been' in recent games yet want to put Hamer next Grimes who hasn't really played CM since the Prem years. Hamer would never have to cover the same amount of ground as Torp/Eccles would back in 22/23 because our shape was a lot more compact defensively.

The reality is, playing AM/LW is probably his best position now because he has a freer role doing the things he's best at.
How much was it for?He had a release clause in his contract last season?
Nor does Hamer atm and looking at it he's actually played more minutes than McCallum, so yes i guess he still does start a bit. Aside from that, like Hamer, he was a top performer for them last season. He doesn't start regularly for Sheffield United anymore, does he?
Utd have a thread running at the moment about Hamer. Reading several of the posts there seems to be a lot of talk about the old school attitude to training and lifestyle since Wilder came in. Under the previous regime it appears they tried to bring in a more strict professional training and lifestyle that was shunned by some of the senior Pros at the club following Wilder leaving and they rebelled against SellesTBF to Hamer though he wasn't a fat knacker while he was here and was probably one of the fittest players at the club. If he did come back under Lampard and Chris Jones I'd be hopeful he'd rediscover that. It seems like there is a bit of indiscipline at Sheffield Utd, Campbell up front is similar.
For reference, this is FotMob. Jamie Allen v Hamer and the picture is consistent compared to Eccles, Rudoni, Grimes and Torp who all beat him on all but 1-2 metrics. What are these defensive numbers then
Clearances, headed clearances, interceptions- you’re not making many of those on the wing whoever you are…For reference, this is FotMob. Jamie Allen v Hamer and the picture is consistent compared to Eccles, Rudoni, Grimes and Torp who all beat him on all but 1-2 metrics.
Hamer, to be fair, is in the top 10% of AMs for ‘possession won final 3rd’.
Thought to compare him to EMC, where it’s a lot more similar. For reference, this is FotMob. Jamie Allen v Hamer and the picture is consistent compared to Eccles, Rudoni, Grimes and Torp who all beat him on all but 1-2 metrics.

If we were on about playing him LW or RW, then it’s a fair comment to make.Thought to compare him to EMC, where it’s a lot more similar.

It’s an interesting one. Because having a look at his 24/25 stats, his defensive numbers were much better and more in line with the players this season in cm. Less confident mind reviewing his stats for this year
Isn’t he busy undermining democracy and such?If we could get Bannon and he was willing to come here on the basis of till the end of the season I think he would be a better fit to revolve with Grimes to rest him or he gets injured. Still a quality player but no where near what we need if we go up so I cant see him agreeing to come here for a few months

Dream signing. I think Watford probably hold tight until the summer though tbh.
I don't believe the source and I don't think Watford would sell right now. If we were competing with Ipswich I think they blow us out of the water with wages anyway. We need to be getting involved at that sort of money.
Not that parachute money makes any difference at allIpswich signing mehmeti and going after louza, meanwhile we seem to be not spending a penny! Surely Doug’s biggest admirers have to start getting concerned
Stop using that excuse ffs, we haven’t spent a penny and we’re top of the league. We are crying out for a ball winning midfielder, It won’t bankrupt the club like all you bedwetters claim all the timeNot that parachute money makes any difference at all
Hamer has been playing further forward in the Championship at Sheff U. For the nostalgia and clear Championship quality, it’s a no brainer. If it’s on, why not?
However, if anyone thinks we’re putting Hamer alongside Grimes at CM playing as we do… I’ve got bridge to sell them. Rudoni’s defensive numbers are much stronger and I wouldn’t put him at CM.
A player like Matisuwa is what this team needs at that CM role and Onyeka is good profile for this position. Ideally, I’d love to pick up a younger player than him but he’s a player that’ll come in, be a league leading player and be able to be a good squad in the Prem.
