Totally agree, was never a huge fan, but he has come on leaps and bounds since FL has been here. A big part of why we are top of the league.

His goals have been v important and it’s something he’d not really done under Robins. I can’t recall him scoring outside of the box in 22/23 or 23/24 (maybe Birmingham at home in 22/23) but under Lampard he’s kicked on.

I do think Torp and Rudoni are better players, but it’s a squad game and whenever Eccles has played, there’s been no marked downgrade.

To stick up for Allen, he’s a player I’d happily have let go the last 2 summers. Firstly, I was wrong. He fills an important niche role wherever we need energy in midfield, typically when holding onto a lead. Granted, he’s not a ‘game changer’ if we’re losing and need a goal but that doesn’t mean his role isn’t important. In every squad, you need players who can play a limited role and be happy with it and Allen won’t banging on Lampard’s door to play every minute of every game.

I’d sign a CM because we need a different profile and just a bit more depth. Eccles can cover CM and AM but what happens when injuries pile up?

Of the three Sunderland players mentioned, Cirkin would be my top choice, followed by Neil....

Can't stand Luke O'Nien and his fake "cheeky chappy" persona. Shite player, gets away with murder because it's him.

Cirkin is a very good left back, arguably better, younger and a bigger version of JDS, and has a decent shot on him.

Neil would be a useful body to add whilst Torp is out, especially if Allen takes some time away.

I'd definitely be happy with Neil or Cirkin if we're looking at players promoted with Sunderland, not sure about O'Nien tbh, i'd support him but he's a bit of a bell and he's not very good. Kind of signing i'd expect from Birmingham, who are reportedly interested.

Esse would 100% start for us, miles better than Sakamoto. YMK would be a rotation option. With the latter, he’s only played 15/25 games so that’s where Spurs’ frustration lies rather than the minutes.

I'd be disgusted with that sort of signing. He's a terrible player.

That’s what rotation option means… I can’t imagine we’ve promised Spurs he’ll start for us.

O'Nien would be a weird one. Is he going to play ahead of Thomas or Kitching?

He then pushes £3m Woolfenden down to fourth choice, have we given up on him already?

Or are we switching to 3 ATB?

Yes, but United would want him to start every week which isn't going to happen here. JDS has been one of the best players in the team that are top of the league. We aren't going to be bringing in a new first LB and JDS will start most games, yes a new LB would be nice but I can't see it being Amass as he wouldn't get the games United would want.

Refer to others posts... That isn't how it works. Spurs and Palace were comfortable sending young expensive talents to us regardless of the fact we have EMC and Tats. It would be the same for United. Our squad is talented but very thin and needs reinforcements.

I think people underestimate the strong position we are in when attracting loan talent. We are in a promotion push and have been the best team so far it's a huge opportunity for any young talent to try and break into this team but also it's not often the top team has space and need for rotation and cover as it's usually a stacked parachute club. Anyone who comes will get plenty of game time here.

I think O'Nein would be a shrewd signing to get us over the line. Vastly experienced, horrible to play against and can find passes through midfield, albeit he's quite slow and isn't as tall as the others. But if it means he keeps Thomas' arrogance in check and provides some mentoring to the rest of the them, I'd be all for it.

A backup and a player who rotates is totally different.

He will be here to play in games where Da Silva needs resting and vice versa, and games where his profile better matches the opposition.

I'm sure United would rather him be at a team who are at the top of the league playing better football

Thing is though, will Frank rotate him? We've had a rotation player for RB sat on the bench all season whilst Frank has whipped MVE for 90 mins every week.

He’s an absolute shit house - but off the pitch he’s supposed to be an incredibly nice humble dude in contrast.

I don’t rate him one bit as a player though.

This window is somewhat different.

If we're signing players permanently, the club needs to believe they can make the step up to the Prem. Signing players on loan is a different kettle of fish, these are players that can contribute right now to get us over the line. When Ipswich signed Keiffer Moore in 23/24, for example, he wasn't a starter every week but an invaluable impact sub. We could do with signing players like that this window but I'd argue we were still building the squad 2023-2025. With promotion on the cards, there's a strategic need to expedite the process and this is something King, Lampard and Austin realise.

YMK will get minutes because Lampard has said several times that we manage EMC's minutes and frankly, you're probably not signing a winger better than EMC in Jan. From my POV, this signing could be a dark horse, he's got some decent underlying numbers and in a better team than Pompey, he could do some good work. For context, Conor Chaplin is yet to score or assist for Pompey this season and suspect that isn't because he's turned rubbish overnight.

Esse and other players we're looking at you'd expect will start or at least be pushing for starting berth.

Latibeaudiere has played twice this season. Being fourth choice CB is clearly not an area of great need.

Regarding O'Nien. It wasn't so long back that many of us were calling for an older more experienced CB to shore up the back line. Wouldn't he therefore contribute to this? If he does the job, being likable isn't really a problem once he plays for us is it?

I would imagine that there would be a few clubs interested in Cirkin. In the couple of games he had started in the PL he's not looked out of place and was solid against the Man City attack.

So what's the state of play then

Official: Min-Hyeok

All but official: Esse

ITKs claim in talks: O'Nien, Wilson

Rumours: Neil

Suggestions: Amass, Castledine

Anything else?
