Yes, I read some comments by Huddersfield fans saying he lacks pace, which I wasn't aware of previously. He sounds like he might be a 'Match of the Day' player like Strachan used to refer to about players whose highlight reel is better than the reality. He has obviously scored some top goals this season, but he might turn out to another Scott Twine and be a decent Championship player, but nothing more. Time will tell!

I'm a simple old man whose confused by posts on this forum
A few weeks ago I was advised that KKH was a waste of money because he was too good to be a back up for MVE
Then I was advised that Latibaudiere was a luxury as he was only fourth choice CB.
Now everyone who has an agenda against the owner is complaining that we haven't spent enough on squad players.

Surely nobody on here really thinks/believes doug bought the ground out of his own pocket? Yes, he's bought the club and offset the debts, but do you really think he bought the ground out of his own kitty? Come on, get real! Whilst he gets a lot of plaudits for making it happen, saying he cant afford to buy a few players because he bought the ground is way off the mark!

I’ve no idea how he’s funded it - just considering that he’s spent probably well north of £50m+. They’ll always be means to get more cash but I’m suggesting he’ll be weighing up ambition versus risk.

I understand we all want signings straight away but there hasn't been much activity at all from the whole of the Championship. I do think though if Frank isn't backed then he could be off because you get the impression when he's mentioned the small squad when asked he's appeared somewhat racked off and could you blame him. We should have recruited better in the summer because it's crazy to think we could survive the whole season with our squad size and quality.

Obviously unlike most of the SBT forum, I have a job. So could someone give me a brief synopsis of any new *credible* rumours…

I'm just catching up but from what I gather so far:

Doug decided to book a ski trip first week of the transfer window, we therefore haven't signed anyone. As a consequence it's too late to make any signings which will manage to make an impact in time, so the season is basically over.

A usual day on SBT.

That’s fine, I’d already written the season off after the Southampton draw.

I think people misinterpret his comments.

We are in the middle of a poor run, Frank admits he’s a terrible loser. Then straight after the match Rob asks him about transfer activity. He’s already in a poor mood and then we ask him to comment on something we know he won’t comment on.

I disagree on the Summer recruitment. Rushworth was an excellent signing and retaining MVE, Thomas and Rudoni who many wanted us to sell so we could reinvest in the squad was crucial to how the season has gone for us so far. The resulting team spirit and unity has been a big factor (maybe the main one) in where we now. The league table tells you it was a good transfer window!

This window is different though. History tells us that teams in our position need to cement it with more bodies, and hopefully we will do that. Tiredness, injuries and losses of form have started in earnest, so we need to mitigate the risks of that continuing or worsening. Newcomers need to be quality though, and not just squad fillers.

We’ll only be signing back up players so I wouldn’t expect too much, once torp and Asante are back can’t see us changing much, just need cover on the wings, and Asante can play on the left,

Yup, FL knew it and all but a few idiots on here knew it. And it has come to pass. It is only down to good fortune that it didn't happen sooner. Honestly, who goes into a super-competitive season with 1 LW, 1RW and 1 No.10? Very fortunately, BTA turned out to be a revelation and plugged every gap early season.
FL was not properly backed in the summer and that needs to be put right this month if DK really wants to 'have a go' at the Prem.

Getting the players we need in early on in the window will not be as easy as you think it is. It looks like we had lined up Manneh but that he is now going elsewhere for instance. Anyone worth signing is likely to be of interest to other teams, and most PL teams will be unlikely to decide on who they will loan out until nearer the end of the window, after AFCON particularly. Another factor is that selling clubs are likely to prefer to wait closer to the end of the window before committing to sell, hoping to get the highest possible price for their players. I imagine Bristol City & Hull for example will hold out as long as possible on Mehmeti and Hughes, although both might well leave them this month.

We have to bring in players that will make a positive difference rather than just bringing in players for the sake of it. If we can't sign the right players until later in the window then I would rather do that than bring in inferior players. There is a lot of bed wetting going on right now, when none of us know how this window will pan out yet. The bed wetters should at least wait until the end of the window before putting their pampers on!

This all sounds like a long way of saying Dean Austin is worse at his job than his contemporaries.
