on a serious note this what it is like when you try an buy popular things first day

you end up in a queue
every launch of every product is like this, its a deliberate thing. create a panic that everything is selling out and people who are on the fence are suddenly in the queue credit card in hand. then in a few days time there will miraculously be new stock available.

They should have really scaled the hosting for the store up for this, isn't expensive or hard to do.

Is it not expensive? I thought it was which is why so many companies don't pay for it even for big releases.
Like when new games consoles come out websites crash everytime because they never pay for the upscale so always assumed it was expensive! What kind of money are we talking?

That's right. A new KFC has opened in Leamington. People were queuing over an hour to get served. What?! It's a KFC.

As for the shirt. Got one for the lad. Wasn't too bad, got chucked out a couple of times and site crashed a few, but straight back in, didn't have to queue again. Shirt ordered by 10.20.

Realistically, the number of people buying cov kits will be completely different to a worldwide games console.

Obviously if the setup is built with scaling in mind it helps because you can just scale up for 3 hours then back down. You just have an increased cost for those 3 hours etc.

It would be interesting to know how many thousands are trying to get to the city store.

Obviously, if it's a Nintendo with 8 million trying to get on, it is a bit different and more expensive 🤣

Just got in after an hour and 20 mins and its pre-order only now 5-7 working days delivery. Tried to check out and it crashes.

It did this to me about 47,000 times, but if you keep refreshing, eventually it works and gets you through it.

Took me a good half an hour to get my shirt in the bag, and another 45 minutes to checkout, not to mention all my patience. But I got there.

Queue times are coming down, so people must be able to checkout, but I've been stuck on the "Pay Now" page for at leat 40 mins. Refreshes do nothing. What a waste of time.

It's really not. The main aim is to get people from hitting the website and to spend money as quick as possible.

The balance is not killing the infrastructure so that's why people use queue it etc.

Even then, the aim is to get people through as quick as they possibly can.

Happens all the time for gig tickets and product launches.

Finally got through to the site. Kit looks nice, but not too many clues from the differences between the pro and normal version, apart from the pro looks a bit more of a breathable texture

Oh bore off you idiot. Some of the crap you spout on here is laughable. The concept is the same, not the scale I was asking a question around the cost of scaling not trying to make the two in terms of number in anyway comparable.

again upscaling for millions joining a site is different to a few thousand so price will reflect that

like comparing apples and pears

It's also comparative to the size of the entity selling though isn't it. You also would never scale the website to have millions because there aren't that many tickets.

It's why I asked a question around cost of scaling to understand if its worth doing for us or if you just upset people for an hour in our case. Again it was a comparison to understand why we would or wouldn't do it.
