Only if you believe it’s impossible for humans to live in harmony with the rest of nature or that they should have zero impact.

I don’t believe that. I think we’re at a technological inflection point an able to live in high density that it’s not needed. I also don’t think self hatred of the human race is cool cos I’m not 14.

I don't think it's impossible for us to live in harmony with nature, or that we should have zero impact. I just think the way things are and seem to be going are not going to achieve that and make it a lot worse.

We are technologically able to live in higher density. The point is are we as a species suited to that? We've been living in higher and higher density since the industrial revolution and that comes with problems. Tower blocks to replace slums had massive impact. No community aspect, distrust and hatred between neighbours because people are literally on top of each other. Massive mental health problems and alcohol/drug abuse to mask it, or people just resorting to violence as a release. I'm considering the human impact of such things and on the whole they aren't good.

High density doesn’t need to mean tower blocks. Look at Paris or Barcelona for high quality high density. We are taking drugs and drinking alcohol at the lowest ever levels and living in cities more than ever. Cities provide specialised employment friendships and dating opportunities and a wealth of commerce and entertainment. There’s a reason the world moves to them generally. They’re also lower carbon impact, easier to heat, more likely to be walkable, easier to provide services and public transport to and a host of other good things.

As a species we are healthier, more sustainable, and wealthier than say any point since the Industrial Revolution and definitely healthier and wealthier than ever. We have broke the back on carbon with solar and EVs, there is a clear blueprint for a sustainable, liveable, high density solution which leaves even more land for those who like to live in isolation or want nature kept as much as possible. What’s not sustainable is everyone living in detached four bed houses with massive gardens driving a car each for every journey.

Nah, some of them on both sides have never worked a day. On the left you have got the great unwashed who are at every protest from vegan pussy marches to racist, anti white and Palestine and on the right you have the dole bludgers with six kids and a crime sheet. The word your looking for is cunts.

Don't work, don't pay tax, don't like football. Cunts.

Marching through town centres with megaphones and posting on social media like football hooligan firms doesn't have a 'silent majority' vibe.

Edit: watched a bit of the clip and it's a bunch of melts in tracksuits livestreaming while they yell at pensioners that they're paedos. You love to see it!

Just looking seems the Nuneaton “protest” was the biggest at around 300. Others were about 50 or so people. Not quite the silent majority is it? For a start they never shut the fuck up.

Not saying I agree with them but how do you know? We're discussing a noisy minority against another noisy minority. My guess tbh is that the majority (who are silent) don't give a fek either way, but as they're silent it's pure conjecture.

How do I know the numbers? There’s groups that are tracking this.

Protests don’t mean much they’re a social event mostly for networking sake as the Gaza ones. But you’ve seen in this thread no. Two anti immigration people can agree on what they want. Some want legal only. Some want none. Some want no asylum seekers. Some want better vetting. Some want lower immigration at all costs some only if their tax doesn’t go up. It’s Brexit all over again: do a majority want it? Probably. Can you find a solution a majority want? Not on your life.

If people favour immigration or staying in Europe they’d still have different views on what that means.

As ever from you use lots of words and it’s just alphabet soup in the end

What groups? Who? Just like political opinion polls and Brexit and anything else im told by polls etc I don't know a single person in my family or friends network who has been asked. That's quite a wide group to have never been questioned.

Sites like YouGov it's just whoever's made an account and then ticked various boxes so they say they have a representative sample. I get phone calls from Ipsos Mori every now and then also, though I don't remember ever giving them my number in the first place.

The way the questions are asked will always have an impact too

But surely those who make an account is already a group with a bias? I'm not saying its one way or the other but definitely will be a bias just by their interest when I maintain most folk couldn't give a flying. They are the true silent majority.

The alternative would be going around the country asking people out and about, which may also happen, don't know.

It would be better representative but even then would need to be multiple ares times days demographics its why I never really believe them. I mean you said they phone you time to time but you'll never vote Tory even if they were the only candidate. That's fine, I'm sure there are others they engage with who are polar opposite so it evens out, but it's still not a barometer of the general public especially with voting in swing areas.

If the Tories suddenly started offering policy positions I agree with more than the Labour Party, I would. I'm very dissatisfied with Labour at the moment and vote Green locally anyway.

Polling's never going to give you a perfect illustration of national opinion, but it's close enough to give you a general impression and especially to tell you when momentum is shifting one way or the other.

Personally I see the pretty clear attempts to instigate violence as particularly tragic. Especially when it appears to be aimed at 60-somethings.

I don’t expect anyone thinks the protest will have revolutionary consequences but only one of the groups involved here is taking part in anti-social behaviour and it’s not the protesters, is it?
