7 in 11 while Lats is playing. In the games he’s missed in that run we’ve had two clean sheets against Preston and Swansea and conceded two in the other five.

Woolfenden has over a 40% clean sheet ratio when he starts

Facts are that whilst we all moan about our centre backs we cant ignore our style of play which can often see defenders caught high up the pitch ( see derby penalty ) and will have us concede goals but you have to decide wether the trade off in attacking play is worth it .. we generally defend the box quite well
We're top of the league by 11 points, I don't see the point in moaning about any of it right now tbh. Everyone should just be enjoying one long party until the end of the season. I'm absolutely buzzing for the Sheffield Wednesday game next week.

This is interesting, because intuitively I agree. But FotMob has recently started doing stats of ‘Goals Conceded whilst on Pitch’ and ‘XG Conceded whilst on Pitch’.

Whilst we don’t concede as many with Lati on the pitch, the XG is in a similar ball park to Kitching and Thomas so I don’t necessarily think it’s structural. I’ve long been a proponent that we need 2 new CBs for next season (well, I said this season but whatever).

Its no secret I’ve not rated our CBs for a while. I am a simple man I like defender who can defend and technical midfielders this season has been very confusing for me 🤣

Ironically we could have done with cal as a squad player at times this season .. would have filled in well

I wasn’t fully joking when I said we should have nicked Hamer O’Hare and McCallum back from Sheff Utd in Jan.

I agree. It's such a shame he's not here to celebrate with us. He must appreciate the irony of his decision to leave for the chance of the Premiership and more money (surely we would have at least matched his current rate next year).

Imho , the game is going back to needing a tough hard working midfielder paired with a good ball playing midfielder

Think matic and fabregas

I’m a perfectionist. Leave me alone.

Grimes just doesn’t quite scratch the itch for me personally. I think we’ll replace him in the starting lineup next season and I just hope it’s a good technical player and not another physical player who can’t trap and pass a ball for my own sake. I appreciate that players with both the physical and technical abilities for the PL are likely out of our budget even post promotion.

Yeah but his run hasn’t coincided with everyone claiming another player has made all the difference defensively.
Our recent run has coincided with onyeka being in the team , which joel has missed 3 and a half games of due to being sent off and rested

For me the rot stopped against Oxford which was before Onyeka arrived 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m not even saying it was nothing to do with Onyeka just that it was equally to do with improving our CB.

You don't like either of our starting midfielders in a title winning team? Tbh you are allowed to like what you like but you often exaggerate for effect, at least I think, and then wonder why you get push back. I actually think you enjoy poking the bees nest just a little bit 😉

I like Grimes, but he doesn’t quite scratch the midfielder itch for me. Ideally we’d have a Torp or Hamer type alongside for me personally. Grimes is steady and a metronome/water carrier type. He doesn’t get me off my seat is all.

The derby penalty was harsh though lets agree on that , shouldnt have been 2 goals

Nah it was never a pen, but for me we don’t look as secure full stop with Kitching in. Like Andy I’d rather replace all our CBs. I just think there’s a reason two of our all time great managers have ended up playing Lats over Kitching now.

Or we have to find the hidden gems. A name I threw out last year was Mamadou Sangare who at the time was playing in Austria. Obviously material doubt over how that translates to a different league. Turns out in that case it was really fucking well, and Lens, who paid c£6m for him now have someone statistically rated as the 3rd best player in France currently.

The rot stopped with a 0-0 draw at home against a team who were firmly rooted in the relegation zone? Interesting.

I think the way we mix it up now (playing long , short , deep ,high ) when needed and making good use of set pieces gives me faith we will be fine next year

The right blend of physicality , pace ,skill and tenacity we will be ok im sure , have faith

Can’t come quick enough …. We will all be expecting loads of goals but let’s secure the points first and foremost
