Story is we opted to sign Paul Edwards instead…Didn't we go and watch David Platt at Crewe but signed someone else.

Might have been Peter Billing?Story is we opted to sign Paul Edwards instead…
Wasn't it Sillett himself?Hope the scout got sacked!
It wasMight have been Peter Billing?
Still a poor decision.Might have been Peter Billing?
We also turned down the chance to buy Neil Lennon when Atkinson was managerStill a poor decision.
In comparison obviously.Still a poor decision.
I thought he didn't sign because Ron wanted him to sign as a centre halfWe also turned down the chance to buy Neil Lennon when Atkinson was manager
Probably but a few months later in the summer of 1996 we bought McAllister & tried to buy Lee BowyerI thought he didn't sign because Ron wanted him to sign as a centre half
Yeah maybe.Wasn't it Sillett himself?
Didn't Sunderland changing their manager also stop that?Had the opportunity for Jordan Henderson after his loan spell, and Andy Carroll but Sisu wouldn't fund it. Can't imagine they would have cost a lot as both were not established at the clubs.
Didn't JH get fans player of the season even though it wasn't even a full season long loan or am I imagining that?Had the opportunity for Jordan Henderson after his loan spell, and Andy Carroll but Sisu wouldn't fund it. Suspect this was a slight bending of the truth from Ranson. Sunderland had absolutely no intention of letting Henderson go.Had the opportunity for Jordan Henderson after his loan spell, and Andy Carroll but Sisu wouldn't fund it. Can't imagine they would have cost a lot as both were not established at the clubs.

You must be imagining it. He only played 10 games for us!
I'm not sure who did win player of the year that season but looking at the squad from that time I presume it must have been one of Westwood, Fox, Dann or Gunnarsson.
Stab in the dark-Sealey/Blythe/Oggy/Westwood/Marshall?Henderson did not get player of the year. That was Gunnarsson.
Was thinking earlier today that Rushworth is miles ahead in my ranking for player of the season. Only one other loanee has ever received that honour.
…..
There have been five other goalkeepers since 1967 when the award was first awarded.

Stephen Warnock?

And for the ones who got away thread…
Žan Vipotnik - the championship top scorer would have come to us rather than Bordeaux in 2023 but the then Brexit rules wouldn’t have allowed him a work permit for the UK.
Swansea is in the UK or was this before he joined them?
