What does it matter if they’re told to wave crosses through? They might as well be up the pitch. Neither full back has ever done it. Personally I think it’s as simple as both of them are very poor defenders.
I certainly wouldn’t argue that MVE is any better than JDS at defending. He does other things better though. We concede some ridiculously poor goals - most start out wide - it’s undisputable.
Do we know this is what they are told? How? It’s insanity if true. A bit like telling midfielders not to cut out passes as we’ll just deal with them in our penalty box. The alternative theory is that neither MVE or JDS can or want to defend properly.
I don’t think we need to change anything at home. But away there seems little point just putting him in and not changing the system. One player can’t do that much. Away I’d have him as part of a midfield 3
A 3 year sticky patch. He hasn’t been excellent he’s been awful. Always out of position, a liability in the tackle, no pace, no good in the air, can’t read the line. Oh, but he does receive and make those 5 yards passes well.
Let’s cut through all this tactical nonsense about JDS. The fact is he’s a poor player. His skill set is receive the ball from 5 yards and then pass it back.
It’s obvious we needed one to go out to facilitate that. Given the three we have that’s a difficult sell. The question really is why did we go for Brau if he isn’t considered good enough?
I think what I’m enjoying the most is the bed shatting about this being a once in a lifetime opportunity as most of us go through the third such opportunity in 4-5 years. Classic.
Something at LB would be a huge bonus but I can’t help but think it will just be Onyeka. If we get him the four we’ve added would still represent an excellent window.
