Is there actually reason the VAR officials can't say to the ref that a player has clearly dived and should be booked? Or can they apply it after the game using the video footage? Just seems incredulous that there wasn't a yellow for it.

As blatant a dive you'll see by an Egypt player, but no booking. Should have been a nailed on yellow for it.

Turned out to be a mismatch in the end really didn't it? Always felt that last free kick was going in. I didn't think Saudi Arabia looked that bad early in the game, seemed to be able to get forward well. Once Russia settled in though that was only going one way, really. Defensively vulnerable...
