I don't think managers really have the option of saying nothing. I doubt he rang up the paper last night and demanded to have his insightful comments published - I'm guessing that they contacted him. Lots of media outlets with lots of space to fill leads to lots of inane comments!!

I try to brush them off when I can....... More seriously, I think everyone is aware of AT's limitations, but are also aware that he is working under (if you'll allow a degree of understatement) "difficult conditions" and so are prepared to take a more balanced view.

I presume that there is at least a degree of irony in the posts that criticise AT, generally in long threads that are very critical of AT, but then finish with comments like - "However, no blame or criticism can be attached to AT......" :):)

All good points. In addition I'm really fed up with those posters who continually claim that Thorn invented penicillin, set out the theory of relativity and was the first man on the moon. Can't these people make postings that are even vaguely sensible?????????
