The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

It’s history. You’ve done the equivalent of me saying that there was once a king of England called Henry the eighth then you turning around and saying no there wasn’t. Fair enough you don’t know Irish history, you’ve probably never needed to know. I’ve read lots on it because of my family...

I don’t need evidence. I just need to let you talk and you’ll tie yourself in knots in no time. As you have today.

It’s was Sickboy who made the point initially and it was me who backed him up. You can’t even get that right.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

How far out I was? It’s you who was a century out. I knew what Sickboy was referring to the second I read his post. In fact it was me who told you. You’re still confusing now. Sickboy was clearly talking about economic migration not escaping a famine and even then you’re confusing speed with...

You don’t get the comparison but then go on to spell it out impeccably. Ireland was very much the same in the period that Romania is being compared to it.

I answered your questions and you ignore it to concentrate on your distraction. No surprise.

What you said I did. Emigration is the only reason that their population has gone down then? What is there to suggest that Romanians will go back? One, the article you linked that says they’re leaving children with relatives why they work in the EU, if they were leaving for good they would...

Again, I never said that. You’ve admitted that once and now you’ve changed your mind again and I apparently did say it again. Also the Romanian emigration isn’t completely permanent. The numbers that settle for good outside of Romania will be far less. I suspect that you’re looking at gross...

More ignorance. It wasn’t leave or die. You could convert to the Protestant faith from catholic and receive support from the British monarchy. As my maternal grandmothers family did. Name changed from Fitzpatrick (Catholic) to Kirkpatrick (Protestant) as did other variations of names beginning...

The rates at the time of the potato famine was for the island of Ireland. The rates in the 40’s and 50’s were for the country of Ireland ie not including the provenance of Ulster.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Look at emigration from Ireland in the 40’s and 50’s under De Velera’s rule as Taoiseach. That was it’s peak. It was over half a million from a country that barely had a population of five million at the time. Just to be clear I’m talking about the country of Ireland not the island of Ireland.

Look at Irish birth rates in the same period. You’re (quite deliberately I would think) only looking at a small part of the full story.

Mmm, record levels in the 40,s and 50’s at rates not seen since the Irish potatoe famine. Interesting. A period when De Valera was the Taoiseach, something Astute was unaware of and also coincidentally not a period covered in Astutes link.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

No I didn’t say that the Irish left on mass, again with the putting words in people’s mouths. Ireland did have mass emigration though, it has also had exceptionally high birth rates. All well known, recorded historical facts. I acknowledge both in the interest of balance.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

I tell you what. When you understand that De Valera (a person I will confidently predict you’d never even heard of before I told you today) had a stranglehold on Ireland for over half a century as either Taoiseach and President come back to me. When you understand something about the Irish...
