The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Apparently it’s not fair that we haven’t been offered what Switzerland has despite the red lines meaning we would never entertain EFTA or Schengen membership.

We don’t want what Switzerland has. Again they are members of EFTA and Schengen.

Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland are all EFTA members. Too many Schengen members to list so here’s a link Schengen Area - Wikipedia As you can see that’s the opposite of no one.

Greta Thunberg / Climate Change Summit

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s law that manufactures have to have serviceable spares available for x number of years after a line goes out of manufacture. 10 years is the number I have in my head but as I say I could be wrong. If I’m right the washing machine was only about 5 years...

Not always though. Just the other week I tried to buy a new PCB control board for my washing machine only to be told that they’re not available for sale as a spare at any price (which I actually thought was illegal). Washing machine that’s otherwise perfectly OK in the bin because of a PCB, it’s...

Switzerland doesn’t have a unique deal. Many countries are EFTA members, many countries are in Schengen. These are not bespoke deals for Switzerland you mentalist.

It’s all throwaway too. When was the last time you saw a TV repair man for instance. Nothing is serviceable in most modern appliances so it’s in the bin and buy a new one.

Is Switzerland part of Schengen? Yes. Is Switzerland part of EFTA? Yes. Do we want either of those? No. What is there to debate exactly? You asked why we can’t have what Switzerland has. The answers are very very simple as stated above.

Greta Thunberg / Climate Change Summit

My understanding is that clean energy on its own isn’t the answer. While we’re still eating meat and dairy causing forests to be destroyed to grow animal feeds and form pasture land we’re doomed. Aside from the fact the fact that the industry itself is a very high source of Co2 it’s also the...

You may be right. I think they possibly worded it as a customs union rather than the customs union.

Didn’t Labour campaign to remain in the customs union?

You can sell the power to the grid but all the lead in tariffs that the government used to subsidise to bring down the payback period has all but disappeared so now unless you’re using what you generate you’ll probably never get your money back before the design life of the equipment is reached...

Greta Thunberg / Climate Change Summit

I was reading something about compressed air energy storage last year in a trade magazine last year. Don’t remember too much about it but basically IIRC it was build a big cavern under a generation source and pump it full of electrically charged air when the grid has nothing to do in the troughs...

Agree with a lot of that, especially regarding solar. Thing with solar is it’s more cost efficient to use the power than sell it to the grid which begs the question why aren’t warehouse and factory roofs covered in them? Mentioned before about Denmark realising that they’re too dependent on...
