I don't think it was to do with ability at all. More to do with causing damage to his body that would affect him beyond his playing career and would cause him discomfort.

For what it's worth Massengo is a great player and that would be a decent replacement for Hamer. I'd rather Hamer though.

I can't find any information on his contract - is that correct? He signed a new one in January 2022 before he went on loan.
