I don’t think this is the case round my neck of the woods. Don’t seem to be tests available for anyone, key worker or not, and Northampton is supposed to be one of the at risk areas.

2 of my teachers have got symptoms over the last 24 hours and can’t get a test anywhere - based in Northampton. The school has been given 10 home tests kits but you have to book a courier and can’t do test until the day they collect it...

Swapping furlough for an UBI would be a good move.

Surely if we can reduce the chance of transmission by allowing people to stay at home (or work from home if viable) in turn it should reduce the risk to those ‘key workers’ that are in places of work. It doesn’t seem to be such a bad idea does it? Admittedly far from perfect.

What point are you actually trying to make? People have a risk to their livelihood due to things completely out of their control, is it so beyond the state to look after them?

Not trying to point score here, but you should be able to feel safe in terms of your health and also your job security. One should not be compromised for the other. I hope it all is OK for you.

I don’t disagree with this, where I feel uncomfortable is where ‘free speech’ is utilised to degrade, dehumanise and persecute people.

Of course people should have the platform to debate ideas across a variety of views and political beliefs, that doesn’t mean that a) a cancel culture is taking over and b) that it should give free rein to people with some pretty horrific views. There is still enough distinction between...

Not true at all. The only people claiming they represent the left are the people on the other side of the political spectrum who like to categorise in this way because they lack the intellectual capacity to understand why people might speak out. Cancel culture is a myth pedalled by right wing...

It makes sense now about the impact of the practical nature of what you teach. And of course there is far less scope to adjust curriculum in regards to what you have to show them.
